Some More Books : Recently Read and To – Read List

Hey girls,

As it so often happens, I enter a book store with the intention of buying books for the kiddos but more often than not, being the bookaholic that I am, I end up buying more books for myself than for the boys (and yet, the boys have already got quite an enviable library of their own)!!!

Here are some of the books that I bought in the last month…I’ve already finished reading a couple of them and am really looking forward to relishing them all.

* Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed – Both by E.L.James.
Ok, so I’m done with the Fifty Shades trilogy. It was quite an interesting read, a change from the thrillers that I usually like to read.

* Winter Of The World – Ken Follett
This is the second book of The Century trilogy. Where book one ended with World War I, book two traces the rise of the Nazis and the lives of people and families as their worlds are shaken and ripped apart by tyranny and what we call now as World War II. (I’m currently reading this one).

* The Great Indian Novel – Shashi Tharoor
I can never resist reading a few pages of a new book while browsing in the store. Mainly, I need to see if I enjoy the author’s style of writing. So I read some pages of this book and I’m looking forward to reading the whole book soon. Tharoor has combined the characters of the Mahabharata with the those of modern Indian history (viz the pre-independence period). So you have a patriarch, (Bhishma Pitahmah), who is called Gangaji (son of Ganga you know), and whose mannerisms, behaviour, way of dressing is just like Gandhiji’s! Interesting isn’t it?

* Bonsai Kitten – Lakshmi Narayan
This is about a girl called Divya who’s married off young to a mean, affection-less man who likes to treat her as his “pairon ki juti”. But then life has other plans for her as she journeys from Delhi to Mumbai to Singapore and experiences a myriad of emotions ultimately reclaiming her destiny.

* Personally, I Blame My Fairy Godmother – Claudia Carroll
This and Bonsai Kitten are the only two chic-lits that I have bought last month (not counting the Fifty Shades series of course). I was tempted to buy this coz its said to be a treat for fans of Sophie Kinsella (and I’m a HUGE fan of Sophie’s). And just listen to this: Claudia Carroll presents a tale of princes who turn out to be frogs, Manolo Blahnik glass slippers and not-so-happily-ever-afters….. Now which girl can resist that? I’m reserving this to read when I’m off on a holiday 😉

* The Rozabal Line – Ashwin Sanghi
I happened to read Ashwin Sanghi’s books in reverse order, starting with his latest release, Krishna Key first and then moving onto Chanakya Chant. The Rozabal Line was not in stock at the bookstores that I checked and I finally got my hands on it. It is a thriller swinging between continents and centuries, tracing a pattern that curls backward to the violent birth of religion itself.

* Thundergod – The Ascendance of Indra- Rajiv G Menon
This is book one of the Vedic trilogy.
(You know, this trend of having trilogies is really getting on my nerves now. The Century trilogy, Fifty Shades Trilogy, Immortals of Meluha trilogy, Aryavarta Trilogies…..u get what I mean? Why can’t the authors just publish one huge jumbo book and stop torturing us readers? I mean I can’t get over the hangover of these books, I simply crave to know what’s going to happen next. I’m sure I’m not alone in desperately wishing that Amish Tripathi’s Oath of the Vayuputras comes out
soon!)
Ok…sorry for the ranting. As you may have guessed, I’m quite obsessed these days with Indian authors and Indian mythological thrillers. This is one such book and so is the last book on this list….

* March of the Aryans – Bhagwan S Gidwani
This book takes us back to the dawn of civilisation (8000 BCE) to vividly create the world of the Aryans. This one line was enough to get me hooked. I’m fascinated with Ancient Indian Culture and mythology so of course, I bought this.

Quite a long post this turned out to be! I’m sorry if you got bored but if you’re a bibliophile like me, I’m sure fascinated would be a better word 🙂

You’ve gotta love the ‘I Love’ series by Lindsey Kelk if you like chick flicks. Her writing style is very engaging!

    1. I have read “I love New York”…quite nice. Will look out for more titles by her.

  3. OMG… thats such a long lists of books… I am tempted to buy all.. but I already have a dozen to be read.
Should I try Fifty shades ?

    1. Fifty Shades is like a kinkier, more erotic version of Mills and Boon. I picked it up to see what all the hype was about. But its quite nice…give it a try.

  4. I just started to read Fifty Shades of Grey and so far I can`t put it down. Which one of the three books would you say is the best one?

    1. All 3 books are equally good but I think the last one, 50 shade freed, is more interesting coz of the way the plot turns out and issues r resolved. Won’t say more coz I don’t want to spoil it for u 🙂

  5. Sure…as soon as I’m done with Winter of the World…and that might take some time coz its 800+ pages 🙂

  6. Great Picks ! Review ‘Personally I blame my Fairy Godmother’ soon…
