Vicks Vaporub For Clear Nose and Soft Feet This Winter

As much as I love winters (though we hardly have any winter in Bombay) the two things I really dont like are my feet getting really dry, especially the heels, and getting a blocked nose.

I discovered a one-step solution for this when I had gone to Switzerland. I could feel the cold coming on and I was getting all sniffley (and I just hate that) and I didnt want my Swiss trip to get spoilt. Then I remember what one of my elderly relatives had once said…”Apply Vicks to the soles of your feet and wear socks at night, it will help unblocking your nose”.

There was no harm in trying it out so that’s what I did the whole week that I was there……. and guess what……it actually worked! My nose didnt feel stuffy and sniffley and my feet didnt ache either at the end of the day after all that walking around!

Ok, so you’re wondering what this has to do with dry feet right? Well, that’s the surprising part. This nightly application of Vicks actually moisturised my feet and softened them and kind relaxed the muscles of my feet too!

Let’s have a look at the ingredients of Vicks
* Pudinah ke Phool (menthol)It has local anesthetic and counter irritant properties. It is also a cough suppressant, helps in reducing minor aches and pains and is a decongestant for chest and sinuses.

* Kapoor (not Ranbir silly, Camphor)It has slight local anasthetic and anti-microbial properties. This too is a cough suppressant.

*Ajwain ke Phool (Carom seeds) This is heat inducing and very effective in curing cough and relieving nasal congestion.

*Nilgiri tel (eucalyptus oil) When inhaled, it is a decongestant. It also has anti inflammatory and analgesic properties and helps relieve the symptoms of cold and flu.

*Jatiphal tel (nutmeg oil) – This too, helps in symptomatic relief of cough and cold.

*Ointment base (petrolatum) – This is the base in which all the above oils are mixed. Petolatum keeps skin supple by preventing skin’s moisture from evaporating.

I guess you can now understand how Vicks helps in both, relief from cold and keeping feet soft. I’m not saying that this will totally cure a severe cold, all I’m saying is that this really helped me in ensuring that my nose stayed unblocked and reduced my sniffles too! And it soothed my sore feet at the end of the day. The socks help in keeping the feet warm and trapping in the skin’s moisture.

Think of this as a simple home remedy and try it out. There’s nothing to lose…just soft feet to gain 🙂
