Maybelline Superstay Lipstick in Timeless Crimson – Apply it, Shut It, Forget It.

“Fill it, Shut it, Forget it”, this was the ad campaign that Hero Honda had come up with a few years ago. The main idea behind this ad was to show the consumers what good mileage their bikes gave, once you fill the petrol, you need to forget about it for quite a few kms.

When I used the Maybelline SuperStay 14HR Lipstick, the first thing that came to my mind was the Hero Honda campaign. Because with this lipstick, that’s what you need to do, “Apply it, Shut it, Forget it”, no more reapplication hassles 😉

Here’s what Maybelline has to say about the SuperStay lipstick: Meet the 14HR lipstick that won’t weigh you down. Super rich color with super staying power. No dragging. No drying. No letdowns at all.

Packaging: These Maybelline lippies stand apart from the others from this brand for their packaging. They come with a white cap and a transparent bottom that houses a shade-matched inner tube. So, the colour that you see in the bottom half of the lipstick is the colour you get. No more rummaging around, checking the shade names of the lipsticks.

Texture and pigmentation: Being a long wear lipstick, I definitely expected a dry texture. Yes, it is dry, but not overly so, more of a creamy matte. However, that could also be coz I’m a fanatic when it comes to applying lip balm and I always make sure that my lips are well prepped before I wear lipstick. If you have dry lips, you might find this lipstick very drying after a couple of hours. And it has more of a satin finish than a pure matte one so there is a sheen to the colour too.
The SuperStay is also super pigmented and just a couple of swipes are enough to give really opaque coverage, even on pigmented lips like mine.

The colour I have, Timeless Crimson, is a beautiful, warm, deep wine red creme without any frost or shimmer. This is a colour that will look good on almost all skin tones, even duskier ones. In fact, this would be a beautiful red for dusky beauties as it is almost a burgundy rather than a crimson.

While I can’t vouch for the 14 hour claim, simply because I don’t wear red lipstick for such a long time (unless I’m at a wedding perhaps), it lasted very well for more than four hours. It would have probably lasted longer but I removed it. And it stayed almost intact through dinner and dessert with just minimal fading around the inner ring of the lips. Like I said, apply it, shut it, forget it.

However, don’t confuse the long wear time with transfer resist properties though, coz this lipstick, while long lasting, is certainly not transfer resistant and does leave a little stain on glasses etc.

The fragrance of the SuperStay is almost exactly like Fox Candies. Personally, I’m not too fond of candy fragrance in a lipstick and this is quite a strong fragrance. It would appeal to kids more than us.

The shade selection in this range is also nice though I would have loved for Maybelline to include a couple of beige-peach creamy nudes, which would be perfect for all day work wear (they are available in USA but not here). The only shade that came close to being labelled a nude was Truffle something and it had a frost finish.

Priced at Rs. 525 for 3.3 g, this lipstick is truly value for money. I have my eyes on Stay With Me Coral and Eternal Rose and if they had Never Ending Nude available in India, I would get that immediately. And Perpetual Posey looked like a dupe for MAC Please Me.

Have you tried the Maybelline SuperStay lipsticks?

  2. Hey nice blog! 🙂 What I like about your blog is that you’ve already put up a review of Maybelline Superstay 14hr lipstick which was very recently launched- this shows that you’re really up to date with the latest makeup, and it also helps those of us who are looking to buy these lipsticks.. Another thing I like about your blog is that you’ve shared the Medplusbeauty.com coupons with us.. it’s a great help.. Thank you! 🙂
What you could add/improve is (this is just my opinion) by making the layout more colorful and with more widgets and all.. it’ll look more attractive. 🙂
