Anti-Aging Face Mask Face Off: Thalgo vs Sisley

Once you’re in your 30s you need to start introducing at least one anti-aging element in your skincare as a supplement to your usual routine. In my regime, that one element is face masks. I’ve been happily using the Dermalogica Age Smart Multivitamin face mask since a couple of years (review here) and recently, I got samples of two more anti-aging face masks; Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask in my June Vellvette bag and Thalgo Hyaluronic Mask in my November Vellvette bag. After using both of them, I thought, instead of reviewing them individually, why don’t I do a comparison between the two. So here we are with the Anti-Aging Face Mask Face Off: Thalgo vs Sisley.

                      Thalgo and Sisley Face Masks

Just like in the ancient ages, duels would start with the competitors stating their lineage, here too, we shall start with the same 😉

Lineage:
Both these brands hail from a country world renowned for fashion and beauty, France.
Thalgo is a brand started by Jean-Claude Sirop in 1996 and uses marine actives (sea salt, algae, zooplanktons) in their products.
Sisley is a company founded by the d’Ornano family in 1976 and it believes in phytocosmetology, which is the process of using natural plant extracts in beauty products.
Packaging:
Thalgo

                        Thalgo Haluronic Mask
Thalgo Hyaluronic Mask comes in a white tube with a mauve flip-top cap. I always prefer tube packaging for skincare products  as it is hygienic, convenient, travel-friendly and also let’s you control the quantity of product you squeeze out.
Sisley
                        Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask

Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask comes in a pretty purple tube with a white screw on cap.

Texture:

Swatches and texture of Thalgo and Sisley Face Masks
Nope, these aren’t the hands of two different people. I swatched the Thalgo mask after a full day of baking in the sun (from 9am to 2pm!!) on my son’s sports day. That’s how much I had tanned in a matter of hours!

The Sisley face mask is has a thick gel-creme texture that glides on smoothly on the skin. A thin layer is all that is needed as it is quite thick. It is a non-drying mask and has to be rinsed off after 15-20 minutes. If you have very dry skin, you can also tissue off the excess without rinsing.

The Thalgo face mask is a transparent gel of medium consistency but feels rich and hydrating. It isn’t a watery gel but isn’t as thick as the Sisley one. This too, is non-drying and can be rinsed or tissued off.

Results:
Despite both the masks being rich and very moisturising, neither of them made my skin break out!! Impressive. Both made my skin feel brighter, softer and more plumped up and though I rinsed off with water, I didn’t feel the need to apply moisturiser (mind you, I have combination skin. If you have dry skin, you might need to.) After each application, my skin looked well-rested, which I actually am not. I’m perpetually sleep deprived, but both these masks made my skin look fresh.

I don’t have wrinkles (touchwood) so I can’t vouch for their anti-wrinkle claims but, basically, if you look fresh and rested, you look young and that’s what both the masks did for my skin.

So far, the Sisley and Thalgo masks are neck to neck in this face off. Just one criteria left now….

Price:

     Information Thalgo Anti-Aging Mask

     Information Sisley Anti-Aging Mask

The Thalgo Hyaluronic Mask is priced at ₹1800 for 50ml while the Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask is a whopping ₹8400 for 60ml!

While I would never say no if someone lovingly wants to gift me the Sisley Black Rose Cream Mask, spending ₹8400 for an anti-aging mask isn’t something I’m about to do in the near future. Perhaps once I’m in my 40s or 50s and actually do have wrinkles, I would think about it but for now, the Thalgo Hyaluronic Mask is the winner of this face off.

₹1800 for an anti-aging face mask isn’t bad at all. So once I finish off this sample and once my Dermalogica mask comes to an end, this is the one I’m going to buy.

Whew! Writing this long, comparative post, “Anti-Aging Face Mask Face Off: Thalgo vs Sisley” was certainly tiring. I would love your feed back on this because I am planning to make this Face Off series a regular feature on the blog. Do you like it? Your feedback is very important to me 🙂

  9. You should try the Clarins Lotus Oil…it is good for oil control and acne. I used the sample. I think I’m convinced enough to buy the bottle.

  10. I’ve just used the sample Rachna…lol. I wouldn’t spend so much on a mask at this point of time.

I haven’t used anti-ageing masks yet either. Serums, yes. But masks, maybe once I hit my 40s as well. Right now it’s all oil- and acne-control, hydration and anti-spots. Not that any of them works beyond a point….
