Maybelline Lip Polish Glam 7- Review and Swatches

Sometimes, I remember those days when I used to leisurely do makeup, carefully layering and blending and making sure it was exactly the way I wanted it. Now, as you will know if you are a regular reader of the blog, makeup is more of a “quickie” because I have to do it super fast (like in this smokey eye look here). Which is why I really appreciate products that multi-task and thus, save time. (Secretly, I feel that such multi-tasking products must have been created or thought up by a mother!)

When I heard about the “Liquid Color Balm” by Color Sensational from Maybelline, I was really eager to try it out because, hey, just apply and go in one simple step. No more layering of lip balm, then lipstick, then lip gloss…just one swipe of of Maybelline’s new LIP POLISH……

Maybelline LipPolish Glam 7 Review and Swatches

Maybelline Lip Polish Glam7

Here’s what Maybelline has to say about it’s new Lip Polish:

A TRIO of CONCENTRATES:

1. Potent Color Extracts: Pure: saturated color pigments that provide deep, intense color like a lipstick.
2. Concentrated Liquid Balm: Moisturising Conditioning Liquid Balm gets the lips ready for intensely rich color. Gives a soft, cushiony feel and care to the lips.
3. Glossy Shine Serum: Built in glossy top-coat that makes lips look fuller and more luscious.

Specially designed leaf-shaped applicator which makes application quick and precise.

Packaging

My first reaction when I saw the Maybelline Lip Polish was “OMG! This is so cute!” The transparent and silver packaging and the shape of the lipstick showing through looked absolutely lovely. I was about to try and pull open the transparent “cap” when I saw that “Maybelline New York” was written upside down on the silver band. That meant that the silver part was the cap and not the transparent. So I twisted it and pulled it out……

to see something that reminded me of my YSL Glossy Stains Corail Aquatique and Corail Fauve (click on names to read reviews); the applicator…

While the applicator of the YSL Glossy stain is slightly more squarish and broader, the applicator of Maybelline Lip Polish is narrower and more tapering towards the end. Also, though you can’t see it in the picture, it s tilted backwards at an angle just like the YSL one, and this makes applying the “polish” to the lower lip easier and precise. And the tapered end helps with a more precise application on the Cupid’s bow.

Colour and Texture

Maybelline Lip Polish Glam7

As you have already seen from the transparent packaging, Glam 7 is a beautiful peachy-pink MLBB (my lips but better) colour that is perfect for office wear, PTA meeting-wear, coffee-with-friends wear, casual-brunch-wear, day-at-the beach-wear, shopping-at-the-mall wear….you get the gist? It is a perfect “wear-anwhere” colour. Also “wear-with-anything” since it is a neutral colour. It would look fabulous on light to medium skin tones but I feel it would wash out anyone with a deeper skintone than NC42. While it looks quite peachy in the tube, on my pigmented lips, the colour appears more pink.

The gloss is quite lightweight and has decent pigmentation. It does moisturise the lips and even after it wears off, my lips don’t feel dry at all.  It is slightly sticky, has a decent wear time, lasting on me for about 3 hours and didn’t have a problem with me drinking water and having grapes. After that, the shine faded considerably though there was still a bit of muted colour remaining on my lips. In fact, in terms of shine and the way it looks on the lips, I would compare the Lip Polish with the Bourjois Shine Edition lipstick.

Swatches

Please excuse the shadow in the lip swatch picture. I was in a rush and took the pic near the window in natural light but the ipad cast a shadow on one part.

Price

Being a drugstore brand, Maybelline’s pricing of Rs. 450 might seem a bit on the higher side to some. Personally, I feel the applicator and the moisturising properties of this lipbalm/lipstick/gloss hybrid justify the price.
Overall, it is quite a nice product with some really lovely shades (wish they gave the shades names instead of just Glam 7 or Pop5 etc). Except for the lasting power, I can’t find anything to rant about with this product. The effect on the lips is definitely comparable to Bourjois Shine Edition, so those of you who don’t want to shell out close to a thousand bucks for that, can surely buy this. And the packaging is so cute!!!

Have you tried the Lip Polish yet? Which is your favourite colour?
Oh, one question…I read somewhere that people now don’t like to read long blog posts, they prefer shorter, to-the-point posts. What do you think? Would you like me to write short, bulleted posts too?
PS- PR sample. Honest and unbiased review based on my personal experience with the product.

  17. This is a lovely shade Dollie! I like that the gloss is lightweight and pigmented. However, I am a little doubtful about the slightly sticky part. I don’t like the stickiness at all!! But, maybe I would give it a try anyway! thanks for the lovely review hun!

  18. It looks very glossy and hydrating!! I prefer both, as I write the experience with the product and then sum up with bulleted pros and cons.. so that who are in hurry can have a look at the points only. 🙂
