Ultraflesh Shinebox Highlight And Shimmer Collection: Review and Swatches.

As you know, I like shopping from strawberrynet.com because it gives me access to so many international brands that I lust after (haul post here). And their daily specials always have some really good deals. That’s how I had bought the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser in December. So it came as quite a pleasant surprise when they asked me if I’d like to review a highlighter palette.

Now, I’m not much into highlighters as I feel that they accentuate my pores, but why would I refuse? I had expected something very average and not from a reputed brand but when I actually got the “Shinebox”, it was a pleasant shock because Ultraflesh is a brand from the house of Fusion Beauty!

Packaging

The packaging of the Ultraflesh Shinebox is simply fabulous! It is truly very cute, with swiveling layers in one chic, high shine plastic box (it’s not cheap plastic though. Like I said, it looks very chic).
The first layer/ level of the box is a Powder Highlighter named “anyplace” (4.2gms). It is a beautiful peachy-gold shade which is absolutely gorgeous on Indian skintones. I had thought that highlighter wasn’t for me and it would make my pores look like craters on the moon. But I was sooooo wrong. And I’m glad I was wrong, because when I wore this (on the eve of my birthday) I glowed!!!

Next come two Cream Shimmers, “anywhere” and “anytime”. “anywhere” is a soft gold cream shimmer and “anytime” is a pink cream shimmer with a cool, silvery undertone. Between these two, you have warm and cool skintones covered.

In the last layer are housed two mini shimmer pencils or “Highlighter Eyeliner” as written on the outer carton. These pencils, like the other products in this palette, are very versatile and can be used in several different ways. “Nude Shimmer” is a rose gold shimmer pencil while “Secret Shimmer” is an icy platinum shimmer pencil. I couldn’t capture the exact shades in the picture but when you see the swatches, you will be able to make out the colours.

Textures and Swatches

From top to bottom: powder highlighter “anyplace”, cream shimmer “anywhere”, cream shimmer “anytime”, shimmer pencil “nude shimmer” and shimmer pencil “secret shimmer”

The most impressive thing about this palette are the textures. The powder highlighter is buttery soft and is very easy to apply. I had to use a very light had with this to avoid going overboard and looking like a shiny disco ball. The cream shimmers too, are really creamy, easy to apply and blend and set to a powder finish. The same holds true for the shimmer pencils too. The only thing that I didn’t like much about the shimmer pencils was that when I applied the “Secret Shimmer” to my water line, it made my eyes water a bit. I guess I should have applied it closer to the lash line.
Another thing that I really liked is that it is shimmery and not glittery, if you know what I mean. There are no big chunky glitters that can look garish. Instead, it is all soft, very fine, micro shimmers that give a glow but aren’t in-your-face chunky. In the picture, the swatches appear to have a frost finish but when actually blended on the face, it looks radiant with a slight shimmer.

Lasting Time

As you must be knowing by now, I don’t wear too much makeup regularly. And when I do wear makeup, it is generally for around 3-4 hours after which I take off all the makeup. This palette arrived on the eve of my birthday so how could I not wear it? I wore the powder highlighter on the cheekbones, the cream shimmer in “anytime” on my eyelids and the shimmer pencil in “Secret shimmer” on my waterline. I was out from around 10pm to 1:30 and when I returned home, all of my makeup was intact. (well, except the Korres liquid lipstick I wore..most of it got transferred to the glass and the fork…what were you thinking??)

Price and Availability

This palette was initially available exclusively on Sephora but apparently, it is discontinued there. However, it is still available on strawberrynet.com. While the original price is Rs. 2420, strawberrynet is offering it at a discounted price of Rs. 1985. Which, I feel is a real good, value for money, deal because you get five versatile products in one palette. I would especially recommend the Ultraflesh Shinebox to brides-to-be as they would be able to use it for every single function to get that radiant glow.

I had never thought that a non-highlighter wearer like me would actually love a highlighting palette so much. I really wanted to do a look with this palette but I didn’t have the time, so I’m just giving you a very blurry cell phone pic from my birthday eve when I was wearing this. Will do a proper look with this palette soon.

Can you see the radiant glow???

And oh yes, Ultraflesh is cruelty free 🙂
