Why I Won’t Let The Deborah Milano Il Rossetto Lipstick #809 Come Near My Lips Again

It’s been a week since my last blog post because I was unwell and simply doing daily tasks was like an ordeal. Thankfully the fever’s gone now but not the cough and body ache yet 🙁
Anyway, as you all know, I got the last FabBag of my subscription last week and one of the products I received was the Deborah Milano Il Rossetto Lipstick in 809, a colour that appeared a virulent purple in the tube.

However, when I swatched it, it didn’t look so bad. In fact, it was quite wearable. So then why am I saying that I wouldn’t let it come near my lips again? Read on……..
Usually, when I review products, I write about the packaging, claims etc. For this one, I won’t be wasting my time on all that but I’ll get straight down to what I disliked about this lipstick.
Firstly, the smell. The Deborah Milano Il Rossetto has a weird, cheap, waxy, plastic-y smell to it that reminded me of the lipsticks of the 90s. Or a lipstick that’s beyond it’s expiry date. I did check the date and this lippie’s expiry date is October 2016! I don’t know if all Deborah lipsticks smell like this or if this is a one off since I (thankfully) have none other to compare it with.

After swatching it, I decided to wear it for a look that I was trying out.

The trouble started when I tried to remove the lipstick. It doesn’t even claim to be a long lasting lipstick and yet the stain it left behind…Would. Not. Budge!
My current eye and lip makeup remover, Clinique Take The Day Off For Lids, Lashes and Lips, which effectively removes even the Estee Lauder Double Wear Lipsticks and YSL Glossy Stains, was unsuccessful in removing this lipstick. Not once, not twice, but THREE times I had to go over my lips with the remover soaked cotton and yet, the stain didn’t go completely! My lips felt so sore. I have never experienced something like this with any lipstick before.
By the end of it, my lips felt like they were burning. I applied a thick layer of my favourite L’Occitane’s Shea lip balm, which is the most soothing lip balm I’ve used, but yet my lips felt terribly sore.
I don’t know whether all Deborah lipsticks are like this or the problem is with this particular colour? Or this particular batch. But one thing’s for sure. I’m not going anywhere near any Deborah Milano product.
Have you ever experienced such a thing with Deborah Milano lipsticks?

  1. oh.. what a horrible experience but the shade looks beautiful on you 🙂

  2. Not just weird, painful too 🙁

  3. Ouch. That sounds really painful. But what I went through was equally bad. I’ve been reading reviewes of this lipstick and nobody else seems to have had such a problem. Perhaps mine’s a faulty piece…

  4. Oops!! Such a DUD! O.o

There are long-stay lip products in a good way, and the ones that are like permanent tattoo gone wrong in a bad way if you get my drift, because of the ingredients they use with the aim of making it long-stay. This happened to a former colleague with some local brand (I forget the name since it isn’t something I use and I wasn’t really into makeup…) and she called me one night, but I wasn’t so into makeup back then. The next day, she came looking parboiled and said Lakme nail polish remover alone had worked on her lips. Imagine what the lippie must have contained if that worked. ARRRRRRGH!
