What comes to mind when you hear that a lipstick is a “sheer” one?
- It won’t be very pigmented and will give a sheer wash of colour.
- It won’t be long-lasting.
Bobbi Brown, however, has broken the stereotype of a “sheer lipstick” and has made a lipstick that is both, extremely pigmented AND very long lasting. What’s sheer about the lipstick then? Read on to know more about the Bobbi Brown Sheer Lip Color Hot Raspberry….
About Bobbi Brown Sheer Lip Color
“A lightweight formula for lips that delivers an effortless wash of colour plus shine. Luxurious butters and oils improve the overall condition of the lips, instantly and over time. Glides on smoothly and effortlessly for hours of feather-free wear.”
The Bobbi Brown Sheer Lip Color comes in a chic black bullet with the brand name engraved on it in white. The shape of the tube is similar, though slightly thinner and shorter than the MAC Mineralize lipsticks. As minimalist and elegant as the tube is, it is also a magnet for finger prints and is prone to getting scratched. This is one of the rare instance instances where I have still kept the outer carton which normally gets discarded the moment I get home.
This shade, Hot Raspberry, is described on the Bobbi Brown website as a “blue pink. The colour is very similar, infact it is almost identical to Elizabeth Arden Ceramide lipstick in Watermelon, perhaps with slightly more blue undertones. It’s a beautiful colour and combined with the juicy, shiny finish, perfect for summer. I would call this an easy-to-wear colour since you can just swipe it on and go. It instantly brightens up my face, with or without other makeup. Being very pigmented, a single swipe is enough for the perfect pop of colour though it can be deepened with more swipes/layers. Hot Raspberry is a shade that I feel will look good on all skintones, from the lightest to the deeply tanned.
Texture and Swatches
The Bobbi Brown Sheer Lip Color have the most Ah-maaaazing texture! I guess you could call it sheer, though “lightweight” would be a more apt term. It glides on super smoothly and evenly, no streaking and feels weightless on the lips. You actually don’t feel like you’re wearing anything on your lips. It caresses the lips and clings to them like second skin. No matter how much I rave about the texture, you will have to experience it to feel it. Super pigmented, it fades evenly and even after eating, it leaves behind a stain which again is even, so it doesn’t look like a ring around the lips. And did I mention that it is super comfortable and weightless? And hydrating? I don’t need to wear a lip balm under this and even after I’ve removed it with a remover, my lips still feel soft.
While the lipstick is pigmented, there is a translucency to it which I guess, is why it has been named Sheer. it isn’t opaque like a standard lipstick would be. The finish is glossy, not shiny- glossy like a lip gloss, but a creamy-glossy, if you know what I mean. Take a look at the pictures and you’ll understand what I’m trying to say.
What you see on my lips is just one swipe of colour. See how “juicy” it looks? And look at the pigmentation. I think this is by far the most lightweight and comfortable lipstick I have ever worn. See how smooth it makes my lips appear? No dryness anywhere and I’m not even wearing lip balm! While most hydrating/glossy lipsticks tend to feather or bleed, there’s nothing of the sort with this lipstick so you don’t even need to apply lip liner!
And here’s how it looks on me…
