Braun Face Mini Epilator and Cleansing Brush Review

A couple of months ago, Braun had launched the Braun Face Mini Epilator and Cleansing Brush. This Mini Epilator, as the name suggests, is meant for use on the face! Initially, I felt that it would be as cumbersome as the weekly trips to the salon to get threading done but after having used it, I am glad to say I was wrong. The Braun Face comes with the following parts:

  • The main body/handle which houses the battery compartment and has the On/Off switch.
  • The epilating head.
  • A protective cap to protect the epilating head.
  • The brush adapter or brush head.
  • A small cleansing brush to clean the hair from the epilator head.

The Mini Epilator

The Mini Epilator has a slim head and has been designed to work with precision on the face. It has 10 micro-openings that capture the finest hair so that you don’t have to wait for the hair to grow back visibly. The epilator rotates in both directions and that can be controlled from the switch depending on the direction of the hair growth. Ideally, the tweezers should rotate in the direction opposite the growth of the hair.

While the epilating head is designed for small and sensitive areas such as the upper lip, lower lip and between the eyebrows, it can’t be used for the eyebrows. I anyway don’t touch my eyebrows so that is fine with me. Don’t expect it to be painless however. Epilating is as painful as plucking out the hair with a pair of tweezers. I have a pretty good pain threshold so it doesn’t feel very painful to me but each person is different. The skin might become a bit red like it does after threading but that can be soothed by rubbing some ice onto the area.

The best part is, because it pulls out the hair from the root, the hair doesn’t grow back as fast as it would after you get threading done. I used the Braun Face Mini Epilator 12 days ago on the upper lip and it’s only now that I can see a few fine hair popping up. I shall epilate again before leaving on my holiday so that I don’t have to worry about it on the trip. (I am scheduling this post so when you read it, I shall be travelling).

The Cleansing Brush

The cleansing brush gently oscillates to loosen up makeup, dirt and pollution and to deep clean the pores. The bristles are soft but you need to be careful not to press the brush too hard onto the skin. I avoid using this cleasing brush around my mouth since I have sensitive skin prone to dermatitis there. If you have sensitive skin then avoid using this. People with active acne breakouts also shouldn’t use this since it can aggravate the acne. Compared to the Pebblesonic, the Cleansing Brush does feel slightly harsh since this is a brush and the former has silicone tips. This brush is great for a weekly deep cleanse for the skin but shouldn’t be used more frequently than that.

Price

The Braun Face Mini Epilator and Cleasing Brush is priced at ₹4,900 but is also available online at discounted rates.

My Views

I love this Mini Epilator because now I don’t need to make trips to the salon. The convenience of hair removal whenever I want, in the privacy of my room is totally worth the price. If you are using it for the first time, be prepared for some pain but with subsequent uses, the pain subsides. The Cleansing brush too, is good for a weekly cleanse. As with all such devices, keeping them clean and dry is very important so ensure that you don’t keep it wet. The Braun Face works on an AA battery but don’t use any normal battery or it will get drained very fast. I would recommend using Duracell or a rechargeable battery since those last longer.  If you have sensitive skin or active acne, then I would advise you to avoid it even though it claims to be suitable for sensitive skin.
