Gillette Venus Subscribe To Smooth Challenge Update And Tips For A Great Shave

Gillette Venus Subscribe To Smooth Challenge

Earlier this month, Gillette Venus had held a Blogger meet I had taken up their 30 day Subscribe To Smooth Challenge (read all about it here). Since shaving has often been a hair removal method that I opt for, I had no qualms in taking up this challenge, especially since it is very convenient when travelling. So here is a little update on the Gillette Venus Subscribe To Smooth challenge as well as some tips to ensure that you get a great shave….

The Gillette Venus gives a really close and smooth shave and so I generally need to shave once in 5-6 days. I have reviewed the Gillette Venus razor in this post here. On a holiday, it is seriously the quickest and most comfortable way of removing unwanted hair. To get a good shave and smooth skin (not rough and stubbly), here are some tips that you should follow:

* Exfoliate Your Skin

Not just before shaving, before any form of hair removal, it is always a good idea to exfoliate. This removes the dead skin cells and ensures that you have a close shave. Exfoliation also prevents ingrowths, which can be unsightly and, at times, painful.

* Do Not Dry Shave

It is very important that the hair be properly moistened for a good shave and to prevent razor burns. There are times when, in a rush, you might be tempted to dry shave but that will lead to razor burn – the feeling of itchiness and dryness that you feel post shaving. Take a warm shower before you shave for good results.

* Use A Proper Shaving Gel

Shaving gels are designed to make the razor glide over the skin while giving a close shave. Most also have some hydrating agents that prevent the skin from drying thus keeping it comfortable during and after the shave. If your shaving gel is over, you can use a hair conditioner and it will give you equally good results.

* Use The Right Tools

Do not use a razor meant for men!!! Men’s razors are designed for the face and the blades are thus arranged in a different way as compared to women’s razors which are designed for the curves of the limbs.

* Do Not Put Too Much Pressure

Putting too much pressure will not give you a smooth shave. It will only give you nicks. Instead, use  a good women’s razor like the Gillette Venus that has a swivel head so you can’t press too hard.

* Keep Your Razor Clean and Dry

After shaving, ensure that you rinse the razor thoroughly  and keep it vertical to air dry. Do not dry it with a towel etc because the fibers might snag on the blades and that will affect the kind of shave you get. Also, change the blades periodically because blunt blades will only give you stubbly skin and razor burns.

I hope these tips help you. Please do let me know if you have any questions regarding shaving since I shall be busting some shaving myths in a post soon. Looking forward to your comments 🙂
