Ananda Spa Aloe Gel and Rose Distillate Hydrating Mask review

Ironic that in the past couple of months that I have been regularly using this fabulous product, temperatures in Mumbai have been soaring and today, when I finally sat down to write the review, there is a slight nip in the air (a very welcome one though). Because the product that I am reviewing today is an absolute hot weather necessity, for adults as well as for the kids. I am talking about the Ananda Spa Aloe Gel and Rose Distillate Hydrating Mask….

About the Ananda Spa Aloe Gel and Rose Distillate Hydrating Mask

“An organic Aloe Vera gel infused with rose distillate. Aloe Vera nourishes, soothes, softens and calms while rose distillate balances and reduces redness. It also possesses anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and anti-spasmodic properties and can be used on cuts burns and sun-stressed skins. Also great for men as a soothing and cooling after-shave gel.”

Packaged in a simple plastic jar with a black lid and green label, this colourless gel fills up your room with the delightful fragrance of roses the minute you open it. And I am not talking of that synthetic, noxious, artificial fragrance either. This hydrating mask smells like you have just entered a room filled with a dozen bouquets of the freshest blooms. For a person who dislikes rose-scented beauty products , to say that I love the fragrance of this mask is a testimony to how good it smells.

And if I had to describe it, I would call it air-conditioner-in-a-jar for your skin! Because that is exactly how it feels when you apply it. There is an instant cooling, soothing sensation like you stepped into an AC car from the blistering summer heat. Like you sipped fresh, cool water from the mountain stream after a strenuous, sweaty trek. You get the idea….

Ingredients

Rose Water – 50%, Aloe Vera – 25%, Cellulose derived gelling agent – 1%, Aqua – qs.

Besides it’s most obvious use as a hydrating face mask, I have used it in several other ways, on me as well as on my kids. There are times when I get a red rash on my face; like a cross between insect bites and allergic rash, and it is extremely itchy. I apply the Ananda Spa Aloe Gel and Rose Distillate Hydrating Mask to the rash and within minutes, the itching subsides. The redness and bumps take a bit longer (around an hour to a couple of hours) to subside. Even on normal insect bites, applying this gel immediately reduces the itchiness and calms the area. The experimenter that I am, I have also mixed rice flour with this mask to make a very gentle brightening and hydrating scrub.

In the severe heat we had the whole of October, the boys would come home with red, flushed cheeks. This hydrating mask cooled the cheeks and reduced the redness. The boys loved the cool feeling and the lovely fragrance, of course. Another wonderful use for this mask is for prickly heat on the back; this mask cools, soothes and calms the rash and reduces the itchiness as well. After a hectic day spent in the Bombay heat and traffic, I have several times, applied this hydrating mask as a night cream. It does feel a bit sticky after about 15-20 minutes but since I’m drifting off to sleep by then, it doesn’t really matter to me. In the morning, my skin feels fresh and hydrated and yet non-greasy. And helps me sleep well. Probably thanks to the aroma of roses…

Priced at ₹1,105 for a 100g jar, this gel is worth the price for the multitude of uses it has. For non-beauty mavens too, I would recommend having the Ananda Spa Aloe Gel and Rose Distillate Hydrating Mask at home since it can be used in so many other therapeutic ways. While winter is slowly making a welcome arrival, I think this mask would also help soothe and hydrate dry, chapped skin in the winter though the cooling sensation isn’t what one would want.

I love this multi-purpose product from Ananda spa. Who would think that this colourless gel could work so many wonders? It is truly a great product and one I would recommend everyone to keep at home. No parabens, no phenoxyehtanol, no pthalates, no mineral oil….what’s not to love?
