Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream Review

The last week has been a crazy time for me, packing cartons and then unpacking them all! In August last year, we had shifted homes since our current home went in for a complete restructuring and renovation. Though our home is still not completely ready, we decided to finally shift back otherwise the contractor and workers would continue taking their own sweet time and keep delaying things. And moving homes is no small task. Especially when it is a family of four adults and two children!

To cut  a long story short, I’m back in my own home (though hubby and my bedroom isn’t ready yet) and have been too busy with the packing, unpacking, discarding, supervising and a plethora of other stressful tasks. The dust, stress, changing weather and lack of a good skincare regime has been causing my skin to behave in a very erratic way with sensitivity and  red rash-like flareups on my cheeks. Perhaps the beauty Gods (or Goddesses) knew what was in store for me because two weeks ago, I received…..

I was among the select few bloggers who got to try out this new product  from Klairs before it actually launched! And, as I mentioned, the timing was absolutely perfect. Read on to know more about this pretty blue cream and what it does…

Besides their effective products, Klairs is also known for it’s simple, fuss-free apothcary-like packaging. As with the sugar scrub, the Midnight Blue Calming Cream too comes in a dark brown glass pot with a black lid nestled in a recyclable brown paper carton. It also has an adorable little spoon-shaped spatula to scoop out the cream and thus maintain product hygiene.

The blue colour of the cream comes from it’s main ingredient, Guaiazulene, (an ingredient extracted from chamomile) which has a dark purple colour. it is effective in calming the inflammation of damaged skin tissue as well as helping in the regeneration of skin cells. The cream also has extracts from Centella Asiatica, a plant native to Madagascar, which prevents scarring and helps in regeneration of damaged skin.

Blue is supposed to be a soothing, calming colour and this cream, with its mild and pleasant fragrance, is just that – calming and soothing. It feels cool when you apply it and immediately helps reduce the itchiness and redness of the flareup / sensitivity. I don’t know whether it was dust mites or stress but I had tiny red bumps all over my cheeks and they were itchy as hell! I applied this cream on clean skin at night and by morning, the itchiness was gone and the redness had subsided quite a bit.

Though this cream is not a moisturiser and is meant to be applied only on sensitive areas, whenever I have used it, it’s been on my entire face (except around the eyes). It has hyaluronic acid so gives adequate hydration for the hot, humid weather in Mumbai. The Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream can be used morning and evening as the final step in skincare – i.e.after the toner, serum and moisturiser. I, however, haven’t used any other products (except for an eye cream) when I’ve applied this. You can also wear makeup over this after giving it time to get absorbed into the skin. My makeup, though, is all in a big carton, waiting to be unpacked once my bedroom and dressing area is ready.

Since this cream hasn’t officially launched yet, the launch date being 10th March, the price hasn’t been disclosed yet. Seeing the pricing of other Klairs products my guess would be that the Midnight Blue Calming Cream would be priced somewhere around $22-27 for the 30ml pot.

This is one product that everyone with sensitive skin should try. Even if your skin is more reactive rather than sensitive or with a tendency to flare up when you’re stressed, the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream is something you should stash in your vanity. Oh, and did I mention that there are no parabens, no mineral oil, no phenoxyethanol and no silicones? If the entire review didn’t convince you, perhaps this last line will 😉
