Island Kiss Lip Balm Review

Island Kiss Lip Balm Review

The only beauty product that I apply multiple times a day is the lip balm. Each of my handbags also havea couple of lip balms stashed in them at all times. So of course, when  I heard of an Indian brand that made organic lip balms, I was eager to try them out. Added bonus, the fun packaging with a 60s vibe! I am talking about the Island Kiss Lip Balm (or La Tropique Pomade as it’s called in french). Read on to know more about these lip balms which have become my absolute favourite ones….

About Island Kiss Lip Balms

“The Island Kiss lip balms are organic, cold-pressed lip moisturisers made in artiste batches using essential oils, active plant botanicals and rich, exotic butters. They arouse the sensation of sun-warmed lips washed by the sea, polished by the waves and brushed with voluptious, tropical flowers.”

Being rich in oil and vegetable butters, these lip balms are very emollient and instantly soften the lips. You need just a small quantity of the lip balm to moisturise the lips. AfteI love the long lasting hydration that these balms give and the fact that even the driest, chapped lips get healed within a day! My mother-in-law has severly dry and chapped lips as a result of all her various medicines and the Island Kiss lip balm has worked wonders for her!

These balms also work beautifully to keep your lips moisturised even when you’re wearing the driest of matte lipsticks. I apply the lip balm when I start doing my makeup so by the time I get to the lips, they are nicely hydrated. I blot off the excess (if I have used too much) and then apply the lipstick which glides on smoothly.

Before I get to the packaging and the individual variants of these amazing lip balms, let me tell you about what impressed me the most about them….. the fact that there are no nasties in these lip balms! No petroleum, no parabens, no sulfates, no pthalates, or anything artificial! All the ingredients in these lip balms are the perfectly safe if ingested. Incredible, isn’t it?

There are three variants available in the Island Kiss Lip Balms – Alma Vanilla & Inges Lavender, Cherry Blossom Flores and Puerto Berry Blush. Besides different fragrances, each of these three variants also have different tints. Let’s take a look at each:

Just how adorable is the packaging? Each lip balm also has a fun insert that can be used as a bookmark. I love the soft vanilla fragrance of this lip balm – the lavender isn’t too obvious to my nose. The tint in this one is “Birth Suit Nude” and thought the balm has a lavender tint in the tube, on the lips it goes on clear. This is my favourite of the three variants and the one that I wear every morning and night.

Ingredients: Tropical Kokum and Avocado Butter, Organic Beeswax, Stevia, Organic Carrot Seed Oil, Pure Castor Oil, Rich Vitamin E Oil, Organic Macademia Nut Oil, English Lavender Essential Oil, French Vanilla Essential Sugar Oil, Natural Organic Colour.

Island Kiss Cherrry Blossom Flores Lip Moisturiser (₹399)

This lip balm has a lovely mild cherry blossom fragrance, very similar to the L’Occitane one. The shade, Bunny Pink Tint, however, is something that doesn’t work for my pigmented lips. It has a pale milky pink tint that would look ghastly on anyone with a medium skintone and pigmented lips. On my mum-in-law though, it looks lovely and natural because of her natural lip colour and she has been using, and loving this lip balm since it’s arrived.

Ingredients: Tropical Kokum and Avocado Butter, Organic Beeswax, Stevia, Organic Carrot Seed Oil, Pure Castor Oil, Rich Vitamin E Oil, Organic Macademia Nut Oil, Japanese Cherry Blossom Essential Oil, Natural Organic Colour.

Puerto Berry Blush is the Belle of the Ball, the lip balm you can reach out for when you want a tint of colour on your lips (and cheeks) along with intense hydration. I use absolutely minuscule quantities of this lip balm to get  a faint hint of tint on my lips. For the times when I want a bit more colour, I use more obviously, and then I get a red stain like the kind you get after eating raspberry jelly. True to it’s name, “Berry Cheeky Tint” it does give a natural red tint and can also be used on the cheeks for a very natural looking blush.

Ingredients: Tropical Kokum and Avocado Butter, Organic Beeswax, Stevia, Organic Carrot Seed Oil, Pure Castor Oil, Rich Vitamin E Oil, Organic Macademia Nut Oil, Citrus Oil, Raspberry Seed Oil, Natural Organic Colour.

As you can see from the pictures, the lip balms have beautiful, cheeky packaging.  I always prefer tube packaging for lip balms to pots and these tubes have an angled applicator making it easy to follow the shape of the lips.

L-R : Birth Suit Nude (Lavender), Bunny Pink Tint (Cherry Blossom), Berry Cheeky Tint (Berry)

Excuse the big blob of the Berry tint balm, I pressed the tube too hard by mistake. By the time I wiped it all off, there was a stain on my wrist which would show up in the pictures so I went ahead and used this picture instead.

My Views

I think the Island Kiss Lip Balms are by far the BESTEST lip balms I have ever used. They even taste nice unlike other lip balms (not that I have “eaten” them but you do tend to lick your lips, don’t you?). It would be great if they could launch a lip plumping version with clove oil / cinnamon oil as well as other shades. Their website states that they intend to have 20 products in the lip care category and all I can say is, after these three incredible aperitifs, bring on the main course. And les desserts, bien sur 😉
