Lakme Weightless Mousse Lip And Cheek Color Review and Swatches

Lakme Weightless Mousse Lip and Cheek Color Review and Swatches

One new launch has taken the blogosphere by storm with all bloggers reviewing, swatching and doing videos on it – and rightfully so, since it is a fabulous product by India’s biggest beauty brand. If you haven’t guessed already, I am referring to the new launch by Lakme – the Lakme Weightless Mousse Lip and Cheek Color. (On a side note, why does Lakme spell it as  C-O-L-O-R and not C-O-L-O-U-R as we all, being an ex-British colony, do?)

Anyway, coming back to the topic at hand, if you follow me on Snapchat (snapchat.com/add/indianshringar) then you would know how much I love these and how frequently I have been wearing them, not just on my lips but also on my cheeks. Lakme had a lovely party for the launch of the Weightless Mousse Lip and Cheek Color but unfortunately, I had to miss that (as well as another event that was the same day). They sent me three shades to try out though – Blush Velvet, Pink Plush and Burgundy Lush. Read on to know more…..

About the Lakme Weightless Mousse Lip and Cheek Color

“Lakme’s first ever lip color in a mousse texture that is super weightless and that can be used as a cheek tint too! Available in 10 intense and vibrant shades, they last long and have a powdery matte finish. The Lakme 9 to 5 Weightless Matte Mousse Lip and Cheek Color is easy to use, blends easily, and has a great colour payoff. All the shades leave a beautiful dewy tint on the cheeks and give the lips an opaque matte finish that won’t budge through the day.”

Before we come to the bouquets, let’s get done with the brickbats – the packaging. While by itself, the packaging – peach tube and rose-gold cap – is quite pretty, there is no shade indicator on it making it a time-consuming and annoying task to hunt through (if you have multiple shades) and find the exact shade that you want. Did Lakme really think that with a fabulous product such as this one, girls would buy just one shade? The only place where the shade is mentioned is on the bottom of the tube and there too, the lettering is tiny. I have painted on a band with the lip colour on the tube and let it dry and then put scotch tape on it so that it doesn’t get rubbed off. Makes it easier to find the shade I want.

What I love about the packaging is the applicator – the Lakme Weightless Mousse Lip and Cheek Color has a leaf shaped applicator with a well in the center to hold the product.

Not only is the leaf shape great for getting a precise shape around the edges of the lips, the well holds enough product for one application so you don’t have to keep dipping into the tube like with doe-foot applicators. (The L’Oreal Shine Caresse have a similar applicator too).

All three of these shades are intensely pigmented too so I am quite sure the rest of them are as well. One swipe gives even, pigmented colour on your lips and for your cheeks, you need just a tiny dab (and some quick blending). True to claims, they are also long lasting and the shades lasted on me for close to 8 hours through coffee and dinner. There was some fading on the inner rim of my lips after eating which was less noticeable with Blush Velvet than it was with the other two.

The texture is indeed lightweight and mousse-like (almost identical to the Mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge that I love) and you barely even feel like you are wearing lipstick. It isn’t transfer-proof though. And once it sets, it does get a bit drying though not as much as the Chambor liquid lipsticks.

And now, let’s move on to the colours…

This is a gorgeous, GORGEOUS shade that I highly recommend. Blush Velvet is a pretty dusty rose that could also work as an MLBB depending on your skintone. I have been wearing this pretty the most since it works great for school meetings, for brunches with family or even on date night with a smokey eye. On the cheeks, it gives a beautiful, natural-looking flush of colour – the kind you get when you exercise or when you’re out on a cold winter’s day. Here’s my LOTD wearing Blush Velvet on the lips and cheeks….

Lakme Weightless Mousse Lip and Cheek Color Pink Plush is a bright coral pink that is insanely pigmented.  In the swatch above, I dabbed a bit more product than required and on blending, you can see that is definitely not the kind of effect you’d want on your cheeks. You have to be careful with this colour and use just a tiny bit if you wear it on your cheeks. Here’s my LOTD with Pink Plush on the lips and the cheeks.

The foundation I am wearing in this picture is a bit too light for me which is why my skintone looks weird and ashy.

Burgundy Lush is a deep, warm-toned red that is perfect for autumn-winter and for Christmas and New Year’s Eve of course. Though the shade seems too dark and daunting to be worn as a blush, you can see how lovely it looks when blended. You have to be careful to use just a tiny bit of product though and do one cheek at a time since this sets really quickly and then becomes difficult to blend. Below is my LOTD…

I love how Burgundy Lush looks on the lips and the cheeks. It effortlessly glams up your entire look even if all you have on your eyes is kohl.

My Views

Great pigmentation, great texture, great longevity and an even greater price tag, the Lakme Weightless Mousse Lip and Cheek Color is another winner from this beauty house that has been churning out one amazing product after another this year. If only they had tweaked the packaging slightly – maybe a shade band or a window showing the colour inside – it would have made this a perfect 10 product. While I haven’t seen all the 10 shades available in this collection, I am quite sure, if worn in the right way, they can all work beautifully as blushes / contour shades and of course, as lip colours.

What do you think of the Lakme Weightless Mousse Lip and Cheek Color? Which shade did you like the most – as a lipstick and as a blush? Let me know in the comments below.
