Colourpop Out and About – Review and Swatches

Colourpop Out and About review

One of the brands that has created a storm in the beauty world and has gained a massive fan following in a really short time is Colourpop. This cruelty-free beauty brand is known not only for their fabulous shades (several of which are said to be dupes of Kylie’s lipsticks) but also for being super affordable. Having tried their Ultra Metallic Lip (read review here) and their Mile High eyeshadow set (shall review that soon), I couldn’t resist ordering a couple more lipsticks when they had free international shipping rates. Because of my bitter experiences with the Mumbai Customs department, I ordered just one bundle, the Colourpop Out and About bundle – to keep the price below the permitted value of  ₹2,000. But despite that, I had to pay customs duty!!! Anyway, let me stop ranting and carry on with the review.

About the Colourpop Out and About Lip Bundle

Out and About was one of Colourpop’s Fall Edit Lip Bundles featuring shades that were perfect for the cooler climes (cool nudes, berry tones and browns). It has two Ultra Matte liquid lipsticks (Times Square and Viper) and one Ultra Satin (Baracuda) packaged in a pretty dusty rose sleeve.

The Colourpop lipsticks are very affordably priced at $6 each. The bundles with 3 lipsticks are priced at $15 sweetening the deal even further. There were other Fall edit bundles too that were really tempting but most had really dark shades. And one thing that I have noticed with liquid lipsticks is that they turn darker on my lips. So, Colourpop Out and About was the only bundle that I ordered.

As I mentioned, the Colourpop liquid lipsticks all swatch much darker than they look in the tube. This picture was clicked in the natural evening light whereas the lip swatches shown below were clicked in yellow light.

These have a thin, almost runny consistency – not thick and mousse-like like the Lakme ones – but are insanely pigmented and a thin layer is all you need for complete, opaque colour. They are also very long lasting, though not transfer-proof,  and once they are set, they can only be removed with a waterproof makeup remover (preferably an oil-based one)

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip Times Square

Colourpop Ultra Matte Times Square
Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip Times Square

Colourpop Ultra Matte  Times Square is described as a matte, muted pink beige. While it looks really pretty in the tube, on my pigmented lips, it turns out to be a nude beige that pretty much washes me out unless I have makeup on (like a smokey eye).

Since it is an Ultra Matte, it settles down to a completely matte finish and feels very dry too. Not as dry as the Chambor ones of course but dry nevertheless. And the worst part is, it settles into the lines on my lips as it dries making my lips resemble dry, parched land during a drought. Not a pretty sight at all.

Colourpop Ultra Matte Viper

Colourpop Ultra Matte Viper is described as a matte true dusty rose and is indeed a very pretty colour. Again, this looks much darker on the lips than it does in the tube. Though it dries totally matte just like Times Square, this shade thankfully, doesn’t make the lines on my lips as noticeable as Times Square does.

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip Baracuda

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip Baracuda

This is my FAVOURITE-EST shade, not just among these three lippies but in general too. I have been loving Colourpop Ultra Satin Baracuda and had worn it Every. Single. Day of my holiday. You will only see this shade in each of my holiday pictures.

Described as a satin warm deepened rose, Baracuda looks a beautiful brown on me reminiscent of the brown lipstick I used to wear in college in the late 90s when browns were in fashion. Love the shade. The satin finish ensures that the lipstick has a smooth texture and isn’t as dry as the Ultra Matte.

My Views

The Colourpop bundles are a great, afforable option to all the other high-end brands. The only drawback for those of us living in India is the customs department. Especially the Mumbai one which charges duty even on products valued at $15!!!

Which are your favourite shades from Colourpop? And which of these three did you like most? Let me know in the comments.

  1. Heyy, can you tell me how much customs you paid for your order of $15? And also how much you paid when you ordered a lot? I wanna order a lott but I dont know how much to expect custom charges!

    1. I don’t really remember exactly how much it was but I think it was around 300 / 350 Rs for this package of $15.

  2. Hey Dollie!
Baracuda looks lovely on you. I bought Wink and Perky from the new collection, and just like you mentioned the color looks so different on the lips. I wish they had more lip swatches of one family of colors together, in an order like light to dark. That would make it so convenient to choose.

    1. Thanks Diya. Your suggestion is really good. Perhaps you should tweet to them and tell them 🙂 .

  3. Lovely shades… I haven’t tried them yet but looks like Viper would be my favorite 😀
    Have a great weekend!

    1. Thanks Ritu. Viper is a beautiful shade but I prefer the texture of Baracuda since it’s an ultra satin.
