Testing Time: Kiehl’s BB Cream

Honestly, I was getting so totally fed up of BB creams that when Kiehl’s launched theirs I was like “not another one”. I didnt even bother to check it out when I went to buy the Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution last month. But the SA gave me a sample of that when she put the CCDSS in the bag and I thought why not just give it a try…

The first thing I noticed when I read the ingredients is that there are NO parabens and silicones nor mineral oil!!! Hurray! That’s when I became eager to try it out and though the Kiehl’s SA told me to just prick the sachet with a pin and use the product from the sachet, I transferred the product into a small, empty jar.
Here’s what Kiehl’s says about its BB cream:
• Dual-action formula instantly conceals imperfections with lightweight, buildable coverage AND is clinically proven to correct skin tone irregularities
• Formulated with a high level of Vitamin C, known for its powerful clarifying action.
• Delivers broad spectrum SPF 50 PA +++ UV protection, this formula also helps to fight future sun damage.
• Comes in 4 shades to suit a wide range of skin tones
• Provides all day hydration
• Paraben Free. Fragrance Free. Silicone Free. Mineral Oil Free.
• Safe for Sensitive Skin and All Skin Types. Non Comedogenic. Dermatologist and Allergy Tested.

The one thing that is common among almost all BB creams is their thick, gloppy texture that makes them quite difficult to blend and a bit sticky too. The only exception to this was the Maybelline BB Stick. And the Kiehl’s BB cream….

The texture of this BB cream is much lighter than that of most others, making it easier to blend. The coverage is sheer and basically just helps to even out the skin tone. But because of its lighter, thinner texture, it is also possible to build up the coverage a bit if required. It won’t hide all your blemishes/marks etc, but minor marks/unevenness, it definitely will. It gives a dewy finish so I would recommend mattifying and setting with a little powder, especially if you live in a hot, humid place like Bombay and don’t want the dewy finish to become all-out sweaty.

There is a weird, clinical smell to this BB which thankfully doesn’t last. It doesn’t have any added fragrance which will be a plus for most people but I like my skincare to have a pleasant fragrance. But this isn’t a very big deal especially since the smell doesn’t last long.

I’m wearing two layers of the BB in this picture as I wanted a little more coverage. But as you can see, it doesn’t cover up the acne marks but it does make the skin tone look more even. Of course this pic is before the major Attack of the Acne Vulgaris. The battle is still raging on with no end in sight…sigh 🙁

And now, for the cardiac arrest…a 30ml tube is priced at Rs. 3200 *gasp*. So, to buy or not to buy, that is the question. On one hand, I am very tempted to buy it. On the other, I feel I should buy the new YSL foundation that I’m lusting after and mix it with my moisturiser for my own version of BB. Sigh! What should I do? What do you suggest?

  1. My Gosh! The price! I have used couple of Kiehl’s products but they are so expensive that even though they worked well I have ended up finding a much cheaper dupe…This one is no exception!

The price is seriously scary. I mean, a BB cream that costs more than a Chanel foundation!!!

In my teens, all I had was once-a-month-wala acne. The huge ones I’m getting now are nightmarish…they leave behind terrible scars!!! Have tried so many things, nothing seems to have a lasting effect 🙁
