Om Ved Shampoo (Restorative) – Probably The Best Shampoo I’ve Ever Used!

A couple of months ago, I was at the Om Ved store to buy their mosquito repellant which is totally natural and hence safe to use around children. While browsing, I saw their range of shampoos and bought the Restorative one which is for dandruff and troubled scalp. I don’t have dandruff but the blow-hot-blow-cold weather in Bombay in november had made my scalp a little sensitive and I thought this would be a good shampoo to try. Read on to know how this shampoo performed…..

About Om Ved Shampoo (Restorative)

Gentle plant-derived botanicals gently clean and soothe a flaky, itchy or dandruff-prone scalp
*Anti-fungal Neem controls naturally occurring microbial levels that can cause scalp irritation.
*Tea Tree nourishes a dry flaky scalp and relieves from itchiness and infection.
* Brahmi, Ayurveda’s hair tonic, prevents dandruff and promotes hair growth.
* Aloe Vera and Vitamin E make hair soft and manageable. The beneficial extracts are blended in a base of gentle Ayurvedic herbs which are traditionally used for hair cleansing and conditioning like Arishtak (Soap nut) and Shikakai (fruit for the hair). Regular use will effectively cleanse and purify scalp, ease dryness and dandruff and add body, shine and bounce. Help hair grow beautiful, soft, silky and lustrous.”

My experience

Om Ved restorative shampoo - review

This Om Ved Shampoo is probably the BEST shampoo I have used till date. I really love the way it cleans my hair and makes it clean without over-drying it. In fact, there are times when I don’t feel like using a conditioner but I do so anyway since my hair would be a frizzy mess without the conditioner.

Being sulfate-free, I had thought it wouldn’t lather well, but since it has Areetha and Shikakai extracts, it lathers really well! For those who don’t know, Areetha is soapnut which is a natural detergent and has been used since centuries in traditional hair care. The soap nuts are soaked in water and the water used as a shampoo in the days of yore.

The fluctuating weather was making my scalp feel a bit sensitive and itchy and this really helped in soothing my scalp. There was no itchiness at all and neither did it dry out my hair. The lemon and tea tree oils in it give it a pleasant herby-citrusy fragrance and I actually look forward to shampooing with it! Besides, the formula of the shampoo is also 100% bio-degradable so it doesn’t harm the nature and environment even after it enters the sewers and then the sea. Impressive!

Packaging

Om Ved restorative shampoo - review

The shampoo comes packaged in a brown, lightweight aluminium (yes, aluminium!) bottle with a pump. The reason why the bottle is aluminium is because that is easier to recycle as compared to plastic.

While I really love the shampoo, the pump is an absolute pain because it dispenses minuscule amounts of shampoo! I need at least 7-8 pumps for my hair and honestly, I just get annoyed and lose patience with it. I prefer to simply unscrew the pump and pour out the shampoo directly. If I could, I would suggest to the Om Ved team to ditch the silly pump and just give a standard fliptop cap instead.

Price and availability

The Om Ved Restorative Shampoo comes in a 100ml bottle and is priced at ₹590. Compared with other drugstore shampoos, it might seem a bit expensive but considering how wonderful it makes my hair feel and the fact that it is free from the nasty chemicals and is bio-degradable, it is definitely worth the price.
Besides the Om Ved stores, the products, including this shampoo, are available at leading chemists as well as on their website, www.omvedstore.in

Have you tried any Om Ved products? I’m so impressed with this shampoo, I’m thinking of trying other stuff from their product range. Any recommendations?
