My Diwali OOTD, LOTD and EOTD Featuring Mickey Contractor Inspired Smoky Eyes

Saal Mubarak everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful Diwali and wish you a great year ahead.

Diwali sari OOTD, LOTD and EOTD

As I type this post on my phone, I’m enroute Rajasthan with my entire extended family. I wanted to share my Mickey Contractor inspired smokey eye look that I wore last evening for the Diwali Puja.

Diwali is probably the only time in the entire year that I wear a sari. And all those who know me,  know that I simply LOVE Bandhani saris. Last year too, I had worn a Bandhani,  an emerald green one and the year before that, it was a mauve one. This year, I wore a deep plummy-fuchsia, or as we Indians say, Rani Pink, Bandhani sari as you can see in the picture above.

Instead of my normal gold eyeshadow, I decided to try out a classic,  Bollywood-style smokey eye. Mickey Contractor,  the Bollywood makeup maestro who introduced the smokey eye to the Hindi film industry,  is celebrating 35 years of beautifying our Bollywood actresses so I decided to try out his signature eye look.

Mickey Contractor usually combines a black and a brown shadow to give the smokey eye am extra dimension. I used a little less black since I didn’t want a very dark look for Diwali. And a nude lip felt a little bland for the festivities so I paired it with a deep pink.
And this is the final LOTD…..

This smokey eye look is super quick and easy to achieve. Besides, since you are smoking or the eyeshadows and don’t need any precise lines, you don’t really need very defined lines or perfect wings either. You can see the makeup maestro in action in this video demonstrating a step by step tutorial…

For my smokey eye, I used the following products….

Instead of a brown eyeshadow, I used the MAC Fluidline Eye Pencil in Earth Sign all over my eyelids. Lining my eyes very thickly with it, I then smudged and spread it on my lids. Then I lined my upper and lower lash lines with the MAC Kohl pencil in Feline and smoked them out with MAC eyeshadow in Carbon. Some mascara and I was done.

This morning, I saw the picture of Dilwale in the newspaper and a picture of Kajol on it, rocking a…..what else, smokey eye….

Let me know what you think of my Bandhani sari OOTD and the smokey EOTD as well as it’s combination with a dark pink LOTD. Did you like the look or would you prefer nude lips with this? Looking forward to your feedback 🙂
