And Life Goes On….

John Lennon once famously said, “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans”. You could be thinking of how you’ll start implementing your New Year’s Resolutions. Or you could be planning your work schedule. Or perhaps the next family holiday. And then life throws a curve ball that sends you reeling and gasping for breath…..

The New Year had my family rushing my mother-in-law to the hospital and the week that followed was an endless round of juggling home, hospital and kids. The blog, and it’s technical issues of course, had to take a backseat. Finally she was back home and things started settling down…..

Then yesterday, a family friend lost her 5 year old daughter in an accident. How does one recover from a shock such as that? An innocent life snuffed out before it has a chance to even explore life’s many delights. I can’t even begin to imagine the trauma the mother must be going through, having to live a parent’s worst nightmare. This morning, when my alarm went off, my first thought was of that mother who’s alarm also must have gone off. She would probably have woken up and got the school things ready for the daughter before the reality set in; that her daughter was no more. For her and her husband, life has changed forever. It can never be the same as what it used to be. Nothing can fill that void in their lives. They have faced the worst loss they could ever imagine. And yet, all around them, life goes on…the sun continues it’s journey across the sky, the sea has it’s high and low tides as usual, why, even the body signals it’s physical demands of hunger, thirst and sleep! Because life goes on….

As author Sharath Komarraju writes in his book The Rise Of Hastinapur; “That was the way of the world, and it was neither cruel nor kind, for the world does not care for the whims of man.”…….

  1. Dollie,
I am so sorry about your friend. Loss of a son/daughter, however old, is the worst pain in the world. The dream that the parents see for their children shatter right before their eyes, the world as they see it has stopped and shattered into infinite dark pieces, takinga part of their soul with them. Truly sorry about their loss. I hope your m-i-l recovers well. My prayers with you & your friends !!

    1. Thanks Dhara.

  2. OMG! The 5 year old met with an accident, how? That is so devastating for the parents, can’t even imagine

    1. Ironically, it happened when she was coming back from the temple with her grandmother 🙁
