How to Colour Your Hair with the new BBlunt Salon Secret Hair Colour

BBlunt Salon Secret hair colour review

As you all know, due to premature greying, I have been colouring my hair since quite a few years now. To reduce the damage caused by frequent colouring, I opted for ammonia-free hair colour but despite that, my hair did lose it’s shine and become dull. And I’m sure there would be several other girls like me who face this problem because hair colour does tend to make the hair a bit dry and lack-luster.

Which is why, BBlunt – the hair care brand started by Adhuna Bhabani who revolutionised the way hair was cut when she opened her first salon at Kemps Corner in 1998 – has launched a hair colour that gives salon-like colour and shine in it’s at-home hair colour, which, by the way is very affordably priced!

BBlunt Salon Secret Hair Colour reivew and tutorial

Since I have been colouring my hair since quite a while and needed to touch up the roots with a shade similar to the one I already had on, I chose Chocolate which is a rich, deep, dark brown – think melted Bournville chocolate.

The BBlunt Salon Secret Hair Colour is really easy to apply at home. All you need to do is mix the colourant and the developer as well as the Shine Tonic, apply to the hair (or just the roots as your requirement may be), leave on for 30 minutes, emulsify and rinse off and shampoo and condition as usual. Unlike all other hair colours that leave you guessing about the quantity of product to use when you only need to touch up the roots, the BBlunt Salon Secret Hair Colour has markings on the tube so you know exactly how much to squeeze out. I found that really helpful because otherwise, I end up with a lot of wasted hair colour.

As you all probably know by now, I was lucky to be able to try out the Salon Secret Hair Colour before it was actually launched. And not only try it out, I also did a how-to colour your hair tutorial with them! Check out the video here…

What I really love about the BBlunt Salon Secret Hair Colour is that the shine actually lasts for as long as the colour does and doesn’t fade away after just a couple of washes. It is not a gimmicky thing where your hair looks shiny when you colour it initially but starts looking dull and lacklustre after a few days. The Shine Tonic actually does work and the hair stays shiny right up to the next application! My first Salon Secret application (the one in this video) was on the 25th of July and I did a root touch up on the 19th of this month (yes, I need to touch up my roots every 3 weeks). In all that while, the colour hadn’t faded and the shine was intact – and you can check that in all my pictures on social media.

The other thing that is wonderful about the BBlunt Salon Secret Hair Colour is it’s price! Such good quality and shine at ₹225 ₹199! With other ammonia-free hair colours costing much more than this, BBlunt has a clear winner on it’s hands here.

    1. I wish I could advise you but unfortunately, I experienced the same thing. I had no option but to colour so I kept colouring and kept getting more and more grey 🙁

  2. I hv not tried any colour yet. But i want to colour it once. I want to colour it brown. My mom is strictly against this as i m already having my hair issue like thin hair split ends. Plzz guide me as i go crazy when i see brown colourd hair. Can it harm hair even if we try it once coz i just want to try it once

    1. Hi Shubha,
Having coloured my hair over the years, I have seen all the damage that it can do. Please listen to your mom (even though you might not like it – I was that age too and have made that mistake) and don’t colour your hair. Perhaps it might not damage if you colour it just once but do you really want to take that risk? If you have black hair and want to colour it light brown, you will have to use some kind of pre-lightener / bleach which will definitely affect the quality of your hair.

  3. and my natural color is brown though not blond i got my global haircolor and used bblunt to get back the natural color!so just want to know will the the blunt haircolor fade coz chocolate brown haircolor turned to b black for me and a few strands of different brown. i hope bblunt wont fade to blonde back?

  4. I didnt colord my hair yet…. but i wsh to go for colorng with little bit sacry… Give me some suggestions to get a reddsh brown color…

    1. My cousin used to do this to get a lovely burgundy tint to her hair. She would grate a small beetroot and boil it in water along with one tablespoon of coffee. When the water was became warm, she would strain it and use that for soaking the henna overnight. She coloured her hair with this henna and it gave her a lovely reddish brown colour. I haven’t tried this personally but I have seen her doing this since years.

  5. i am planing to color my hair for first type but sacred if it will spoil my hair i already suffering from lot of hair fall….. so i am confused should i color or not?? plz rply

    1. Hi Faeza, if you haven’t coloured your hair at all, I would recommend that you DON’T. I will probably sound like an old lady or like your mother, but based on my experience, hair colours DO damage hair – even if they are ammonia-free. They are loaded with other chemicals that not only spoil the hair but also the scalp in the long run. You don’t realise it immediately, but the effects are seen a few years after you start colouring. Just my advice based on my experiences.

I tried bblunt twice.. noticing lots of breakage inspite of regular trims 🙁
Colour is good no doubt.. but breakage never got it from salon proffesional hair color never ever.

    1. I’ve had hair fall and breakage with all hair colours that I have used. So am back to using henna + indigo now.

  7. So I tried dying my hair blue with the Blueberry shade on my blonde hair, and it straight-up turned black. Like, BLACK. How can I fade it to blue?

    1. I don’t think the Blueberry shade was meant to be a bright blue. I guess it is a black with blue tints to it which is why it turned your hair black. The best option would be to consult a hairdresser on how you can fade the colour.
On another note, once you get back to your original blond hair, you can use indigo powder to make your hair blue.

Same happened to me.. now im trapped in the vicious circle of coloring my hair now and then..

    1. I’ve switched back to the henna + indigo combination since the greys were just multiplying like crazy. Also, hair colour causes the grey to be a shiny, silvery grey, not the brown grey that one gets naturally. At least this is what I have noticed.

  9. I applied the colour despite of my mom’s continous warning of getting greys. Now i am afraid if i will get greys or not! Though i kept it just for 15 mins

    1. Hi Aashna,
If you ask any hairdresser, they will tell you that colouring your hair doesn’t turn them grey. However my personal experience says otherwise. My hair turned grey after colouring and so did that of some of my family and friends as well. It is different with each person. I would agree with your mother and recommend you to avoid colouring your hair. Just a friendly advice 🙂

  10. I also have few grey hair strands but i am afraid of coloring my hair.

    1. Avoid colouring as far as you can because the greys will only increase once you start. All hairdressers will deny this but I’m telling you from personal experience and even experience of my friends and family.

  11. Nice review.
