Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Serum Foundation with SPF 45 – Review and Swatches

Lakme Argan Oil Foundation review and swatches

In recent times, Lakme has been consistently launching one amazing makeup range after another. Right from the wonderful Illuminating Eyeshadow Palettes to the Sun-Kissed Bronzer to the Lip Pouts in collaboration with Masaba to my favourite – the Weightless Mousse Lip & Cheek Colour , it has ensured that it consistently delivers trendy makeup products. August this year saw the launch of the Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Range and the one product I was most eager to try out was the Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Serum Foundation. Here’s my review of this foundation….

About the Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Serum Foundation SPF 45

Price ₹750 / 30ml. Available here.

“A revolutionary serum foundation that nourishes the skin while giving it a dewy, radiant look. Thanks to the precious Argan Oil, the new serum foundation not only has skincare benefits, but also has a silky, fluid texture that blends easily into the skin. For the first time, Lakme introduces a modern dropper pack for easier usage. The Argan Oil keeps the skin moisturised and supple, making the foundation suitable for daily wear.

Packaging

The Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Serum Foundation comes in a very luxe-look gold and black packaging which looks like glass but is actually plastic, making it safe for travel. It also has a rubber dropper which makes it easy to dispense just the right amount of foundation and prevent wastage. What I dislike about the packaging is that the bottle is identical to that of the Argan Oil Serum.

While it isn’t very likely that most people would have multiple shades of the foundation, it is possible that many would purchase the Serum and the foundation and having both identical bottles on the vanity would lead to several wasted minutes as you try to distinguish one from the other. Yes, there is the writing on the bottle to help you differentiate but as you can see from the pictures, the dual-cylinder packaging and metallic gold make it slightly illegible from certain angles.

Texture,  Coverage & Swatches

The Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Serum Foundation has a medium texture – not very thick and heavy and not thin and runny – and is quite easy to blend with the fingers as well as with a brush / sponge. It does tend to settle faster than most foundations so you have to apply it in sections to prevent a patchy look. I usually dot the foundation all over my face and then blend it but with this one, if I did that, the dots of foundation start settling down and become difficult to blend. So I apply and blend the foundation on one area of my face before moving onto the other.

What I was most excited about was the claim that the Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Serum Foundation gave a dewy, radiant finish. It does give a radiant finish but it isn’t dewy, it is quite matte – a soft matte radiant finish is how I’d describe it! Coverage wise, this foundation gives a light to medium coverage making it perfect for daily wear. Also, in a hot and humid city like Bombay, the  soft matte finish would be counted as an advantage, I feel.

There are 6 shades available in this foundation, of which the brand sent me two – Ivory Cream and Silk Golden. Both of these are light for my NC42 skin though I can make Silk Golden work for me if I apply it in a very thin layer. Here are the swatches of these two shades…

These are freshly applied swatches that hadn’t yet settled down completely so they look a bit dewy. Once they settle down they are completely matte.

To sum it up, I’d say the Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Serum Foundation is a really good daily wear foundation, especially for a city like Bombay where you need a matte finish. It doesn’t feel drying, lasts a decent 5-6 hours (depending on how much you’ve used, whether you’ve set it with powder or not) and is quite affordable too! While the packaging is pretty and looks luxe, I would have preferred if there was some way of differentiating the shades or differentiating the foundation from the serum.

Have you tried the Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Serum Foundation? Let me know your thoughts on it.
