As 2013 heads towards its exit and we await the entry of 2014, I wanted to show you two of the BEST hair products I discovered in the last month of the 2013. These products are organic, contain no Parabens, no SLS/SLES, no silicones, no phenoxyethanols, no DEA/TEA, no artificial fragrance or colour. Interested? I’m talking about products from Soul Tree, the Neem and Aloe Anti-Dandruff Shampoo and the Hibiscus Hair Conditioner.
I have been using both these products since a month and a half because, as with any sulphate-free shampoo / conditioner, you have to give your hair the time to “detoxify” itself from all the previously used SLS and silicone laden shampoos and then only can you realise how effective this new product is.

Packaging
The Soul Tree shampoo and conditioner come in simple plastic packaging (which is recyclable) and have a black cap / lid. The products themselves are bio-degradable.
The Neem and Aloe shampoo has a flip-top cap which makes it easy to dispense the right amount of product and also makes it travel-friendly (yes, it travelled with me on my Rajasthan trip).
The Hibiscus Conditioner comes in a tub with a screw-on lid. It also has another inner lid that prevents the product from spilling out. Though there’s not much chance of that happening as the conditioner has a lovely creamy texture. While the tub can be unhygienic for skincare products, I don’t really mind it for a conditioner or a hair mask. After all, my hands are clean after shampooing and the product going on my hair is going to be rinsed out anyway.
Ingredients
The Neem and Aloe Shampoo has extracts of Neem, Methi (fenugreek), Amla (gooseberry), Reetha and aloe, all of which are wonderful for the hair. It also has lemon peel that heals a irritated scalp and prevents dandruff.
The Hibiscus hair conditioner has the goodness of coconut oil and aloe vera along with shikakai and of course, hibiscus, all of which are beneficial to the hair’s health in the long run. Unlike silicones which make the hair seem soft and smooth but suck all the moisture from the hair in the long run.
Texture, Fragrance and Efficacy
The Neem and Aloe shampoo has a thick, almost gel-like texture and is brownish in colour. It has a very unique fragrance which smelled like a combination of neem, lemon and henna (though it doesn’t contain henna).
Being sulphate-free, it is a bit difficult to spread and lather and I can also feel my hair getting entangled more than with other shampoos. Now however, I spread small quantities of the shampoo with my fingers on different sections of my hair and then work it through. This reduces the tangles to some extent.
And does my hair like this shampoo? Yes, it LOVES it!! Initially, my hair felt rough and dry, but now, it is lovely. Though I don’t have dandruff, my scalp was sensitive and irritated during my trip to Rajasthan due to the dry, cold weather, the sand and the hard water. This shampoo really soothed my scalp and hair and along with the conditioner, made my hair look so lovely without any styling or serums!!
How do I describe the fragrance of this conditioner? It is the best smelling conditioner I’ve used. It has a very delicate floral fragrance, but not a powdery floral. The texture is nice and creamy, like a fruit purée.
When you apply it and rinse it off, you feel like it just sat on your hair and did nothing coz it doesn’t help much in disentangling the hair. But once your hair is dry, you realise that it is moisturised and healthy-looking.
I have dry, wavy, frizzy hair and the combination of this shampoo and conditioner has made my hair more moisturised and has reduced frizz. My waves look smoother without any serum. Don’t believe me? Take a look at this picture I took yesterday. We had just got back from Rajasthan and I had to go for my cousin’s wedding. I had just shampooed and conditioned my hair and let it air dry….
The Neem and Aloe anti-dandruff shampoo is priced at ₹ 425 for 200ml while the Hibiscus Hair Conditioner is priced at ₹ 295 for 100 gms. Who said organic goodies weren’t available at a reasonable price?
Anyway, now you know why I feel that the Soul Tree shampoo and conditioner are the best discoveries of 2013 for my hair. I’m surely not going back to chemical-laden hair products now.
Have you tried Soul Tree products?
PS – products sent by brand for consideration. Review is entirely honest and unbiased and based on my experience with the products.
Do they dry out hair even when hair are oiled night before day of washing? And how long do these products last if used for medium length hair?
The best I have ever used for combating my hair dandruff is the GKhair anti-dandruff shampoo. It’s a sulfate free and color safe shampoo that is very much effective in keeping the hair dandruff totally at bay. This is proven and tested formula by myself. I’d highly recommend this shampoo. 🙂 <3
Great review….try http://hair-caretips.com to get top quality products at very affordable prices.
It’s good to know that such organic products are available at affordable prices though I haven’t tried this brand yet!! You look lovely in that picture. :)) happy New year!!
Try it and be patient. It takes time for sulphate-free shampoos to show their efficacy.
Thanks 🙂 Do try this brand….it really is good !
