MaskGenie 10 Days In The Wild Mask Pouch – Unboxing and Contents

MaskGenie 10 Days In The Wild Unboxing and contents

Sheet masks never really excited me as much as cream/clay based masks (to know more about the types of face masks, read this post) but Memebox changed all that and I fell in love with these essence soaked masks that are so convenient and effective! We Memebox fans have a group on Facebook where we (virtually) hang out and discuss our Korean beauty product obsession and that’s where I “met” the gorgeous Genie, the brain behind MaskGenie. What is MaskGenie, you ask? It is a….(drumroll….) monthly subscription service of  masks!!! All of which are sourced from some of the best loved brands of Asia! And today, I’m going to show you an unboxing /unpouching of one of their limited edition pouches, 10 Days In The Wild.

About MaskGenie

As mentioned above, MaskGenie is a monthly subscription mask pouch curated by Genie who lives in Hong Kong and thus has access to the best beauty brands of Asia. So you get to try out masks that are not only from Korea, but also Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and sometimes, even China. And these aren’t just sheet masks or masks for the face. The monthly pouch has masks to give you a head to toe pampering. You could get hair masks, hand masks and even feet masks along with those for the face in these monthly pouches. Subscribers also have an option of choosing between a 10 mask pouch ($22) and a 5 mask one ($12). They also have luxury limited edition sets such as this animal themed one, which are priced higher than the normal 10 mask pouch.

Being a mask enthusiast herself, Genie usually tries out almost all the masks that she curates for the pouches. The name, MaskGenie is such an apt name too because not only does it come from her name, Eugenie, but also because, like a magical genie, it grants you the wish of having beautiful skin, month after month.

Unpouching Of MaskGenie 10 Days In The Wild

MaskGenie 10 Days In The Wild Unboxing and contents

10 Days In The Wild isn’t one of the monthly mask pouches from MaskGenie. It is a special limited edition one filled with 10 sheet masks all with different animals on them. Animal sheet masks (sheet masks with faces of animals painted on them) are a major fad in Asia with several celebrities posting pictures on instagram of themselves with such masks on. I think these are a totally fun idea; not only do you get all the skincare benefits from the mask, the animal faces on them make for such cool pics. And if you have kids, it is entertaining for them as well! My boys wanted me to first try out the Dragon one, which I did today, as well as the “Batman one on the eyes mama.” This pouch has three masks from Berrisom, two from Royal Skin, four from SNP and one from Luxury Soo. Let’s take a closer look at each…..

Berrisom Animal Mask Series – CAT

This “Cat” mask has collagen which is very beneficial in maintaining plump, youthful skin and in fighting the first signs of aging. Collagen masks are usually hydrating and thus, meant for dry skin. Since everything on the mask is written in an oriental script that I can’t read, I don’t know what that 100% on the top right corner stands for, neither can I read the ingredients.

Berrisom Animal Mask Series – MONKEY

Memebox introduced me to the wonders of snail mucin in skincare products (and bee venom and donkey milk) and one of my favourite products was the Swanicoco Snail Gommage Peeling. This monkey mask from Berrisom has snail mucin extracts in it for softer, smoother, brighter skin.

Berrisom Animal Mask Series – RACCOON

Adenosine is one of the really effective anti-aging ingredients. The L’Oreal Laser X3 serum and cream (read review here) that I have used and which have been very effective in controlling my fine lines, also have adenosine as one of the ingredients. But placenta??? Who’s placenta? How was it obtained? Too many questions and just the fact that this mask has placenta makes me feel queasy. This is one mask from the pouch that I’m not comfortable using.

Royal Skin The Animalian Mask – SHEEP

This mask, thankfully, has the ingredients listed out in English, some of which are Betaine, Panthenol, hydrolised collegen, camellia leaf extract, aloe leaf extract, anise fruit extract. Claims to make the skin “moist and active” though I don’t know what they mean by active. I guess they mean it will be refreshing? Will be fun to find out.

Royal Skin The Animalian Mask – FOX

The ingredients and claims of this mask are pretty much the same as that of the Sheep mask so I’m guessing that it is just the animal print on the mask that is different. I shall know when I use both of them.

SNP Animal OTTER Aqua Mask

MaskGenie 10 Days In The Wild Unboxing and contents

SNP (Shining Nature Purity) animal masks are apparently really popular with the otter one being the favourite. In most of the masks, they have chosen the animal according to the type of mask so since this mask is to rehydrate and add moisture to dry and dehydrated skin, they it has the otter print on it. The SNP masks list out the ingredients in English as well, thankfully, and quite a nice ingredient list it is too.

Had to colour correct this picture to make the writing more legible. That’s why the background appears dark blue.

SNP Animal PANDA Whitening Mask

MaskGenie 10 Days In The Wild Unboxing and contents

As I mentioned with the Otter Mask, the SNP masks pair the animals with the skincare feature of the mask. So this whitening, brightening mask has been given the Panda print. Yes, the ingredient list does feature Phenoxyethanol (a preservative) but it is way down the list and I have said this previously in other reviews, there’s no conclusive evidence against it as yet.

SNP Animal TIGER Wrinkle Mask

MaskGenie 10 Days In The Wild Unboxing and contents

An anti-aging mask that targets dull, sagging skin to make it appear youthful and elastic. Anti-aging is definitely something I need and the boys want me to use the Tiger mask next so I guess you’ll see this one making an appearance on my face soon.

SNP Animal DRAGON Soothing Mask

MaskGenie 10 Days In The Wild Unboxing and contents

I know….Dragon mask and soothing? This one is actually targeted at sensitive and acne-prone skin and it’s the first mask from this pouch that I tried. Perhaps I need some more practice at smoothing out the mask on my face or perhaps my face is a bit small, but the mask didn’t really fit my face that well. Most sheet masks don’t so that isn’t really a surprising thing. But it did feel very cool and soothing on the skin. I had a couple of red bumps around the jaw, signs of an impending that-time-of-the-month breakout but after removing the mask, they really diminished in size.

Luxury Soo Anti-Wrinkle Eye Mask

MaskGenie 10 Days In The Wild Unboxing and contents

While the picture on the pack is that of a penguin, the mask itself, meant just for the eye area, looks like a Batman mask. The boys wanted me to wear this right after the Dragon mask and I had to tell them that these aren’t fun masks, they are actual skincare and not for fooling around. This mask also claims to reduce dark circles and I really hope it lives up to that claim, though to be honest, I know that to see proper results, I would need more than just one mask. But it will be nice to pose for pictures as Batwoman.

Price

This limited edition set of 10 animal masks is priced at $34 including shipping, which is certainly a really good deal. The package was shipped from Hong Kong on the 21st of April and I received it in Mumbai on the 1st of May! Pretty quick I must say. And surprisingly, I didn’t have to pay any customs duty for this *happy dance*.

My Views

Being limited edition, this pouch is more expensive than the usual monthly mask pouches and yet, is is tremendously good value for money since it includes shipping as well. Whether you’re a sheet mask novice or a mask junkie you must check out MaskGenie. She also has another limited edition pouch, the Oriental Beauty one that seems wonderful since the masks in that pouch are made from silk! I am lusting after that as well as the monthly pouch since that one has masks for other parts of the body as well. And at $22 including shipping for a set of 10 masks, it is a really good deal. What say?

Ok, would you like me to do a separate review post with pictures of me wearing the masks and mini reviews of each or would you like to to put that up on instagram as and when I wear the mask? Do let me know.

Whew, this became quite a long post. And it also seems to be like a really long summer. Sigh. If you haven’t read my post on sunscreens, do read it now (click here to read it).
