Maybelline is one drugstore that consistently delivers great quality products at pocket-friendly prices. I always look forward to their new launches since I know I’m bound to find some new favourites. With the huge success of their Color Show nail polishes (check out the posts here and here), Maybelline has now launched the Color Show Lip Colors, an affordable range of bold and vibrant lipsticks. I was sent four colours to try out, Orange Icon, Fuschia Flare (their spelling, not mine), Cherry Crush and Red Rush. So, read on…
Maybelline Color Show Lipsticks Review
About the Maybelline Color Show Lip Colors
“Color Show has always been on your fingertips, it’s now time for them to be on your lips. Presenting the bold, affordable and vibrant colors of the season, Maybelline New York’s Color Show Lip Colors! We give a shade for your every mood; now show your independence with reds, power with mauves, playful side with pinks and warmth with browns. These 32 intense colors suit all Indian skintones and we’re absolutely sure you’ll love them. Why?
- They give all day hydration.
- They are heat resistant.
- They guarantee color integrity.
- They do not fade in extreme heat and humidity.
- They have a non-sticky soft texture and hence are easy to glide.
The 32 colors are divided into four color families:
- Classic Reds (7 shades)
- Marvellous Mauves (10 shades)
- Provocative Pinks (6 shades)
- Delicious Browns (9 shades)”
The Maybelline Color Show Lip Colors come in a black tube with a coloured band around the center for the “colour family” that the shade belongs to. However, if you have more than one shade from a particular colour family, you will definitely have to check the shade name at the bottom of the tube.
The shades truly are vibrant and pigmented and creamy as well. They go on smoothly and, with the exception of Orange icon, go opaque in one swipe. Since they are creamy, they don’t last very long – around 3-4 hours with a snack – and they definitely do transfer. Fuschia Flare and Red Rush last a slightly longer and even survive a “Thali” meal just fading a little from the inner rim. These lipsticks have a pleasant candy fragrance that doesn’t linger.
Capturing these shades accurately on the camera was really difficult. But one thing is certain, they would all look beautiful on all Indian skin tones.
Orange Icon is actually put under the Delicious Browns category! But don’t be fooled by the name or be scared by the bright, vibrant colour in the tube though (It appears much brighter in person than it does in the pictures). On my pigmented lips, it is a gorgeous peachy-coral that looks soft and romantic. A beautiful colour for the hot, humid days.
Fuschia Flare is a super bright fuchsia that will surely brighten up a dull, rainy day. Since it is so deep and pigmented, this, along with Red Rush, lasts longer than the other two colours.
Cherry Crush is a gorgeous colour – not too bright not too dull – it is a colour that can be worn anytime, anywhere; from a school meeting to brunch with the girls to even date night depending on the rest of your makeup. I haven’t been able to capture this colour very well in the picture but trust me, it is fabulous! It is a bit brighter than it appears here (check the hand swatch) and is the best of these four shades.
Red Rush is a post-box red shade. It appears to have cool undertones in certain lighting and warm undertones in others. In this picture it seems to be more like a brick red but the hand swatch shows a more accurate shade. Perhaps because the picture of the hand swatches was taken in daylight while the lip swatches have been taken at night under white light.
Priced at ₹299, these lipsticks are true to their claims of affordable, bold, vibrant lip colours. At this price, one wouldn’t feel guilty about indulging in quite a few yummy colours. Maybelline has launched these at a perfect time, just when the colleges will be starting, and have also priced it right for the college girl. Great going Maybelline 🙂
