Patrick Cameron Presents The Wella Modern Vintage Collection In India
Most international hairdressers that I have met can’t understand the Indian woman’s fixation with long hair. They usually encourage the ladies to get experimental and to try cutting their hair short. Patrick Cameron isn’t one of those hairdressers. In fact, he loves long hair and is acknowleged by his peers as the long hair expert and is renowned for his expert skills at dressing long hair. Needless to say, it was a pleasure meeting him and getting tips from him at the special blogger meet that Wella had arranged during his trip to Mumbai to showcase the Wella Modern Vintage Collection last week.
Wella Professionals, which is among the world’s most renowned hair brands, realises that hairstyling as a category is still in it’s nascency in India. Styling products are used mainly by stylists at salons and less frequently used at home. Wella Professionals as a brand strives to bridge this gap by providing the consumers and stylists with premium quality products making the art of hairstyling rather convenient. The brand recently brought down Wella Global Ambassador Patrick Cameron to educate 1800 hair stylists across three cities in India through grand shows where he exposed them to the various possibilities of hairstyling.
During this visit to India, Wella Global Ambassador Patrick Cameron showcased his Modern Vintage collection with state of the art styling products from the Wella Professionals portfolio. Modern vintage takes its inspiration from the 1960’s because this era has an enduring influence in fashion, in the balance and the proportions of the way hair is dressed.
Patrick Cameron had devised the collection to showcase step-by-step looks and demonstrations to the hairdressers that struggle with styling long hair. These hair shows were held across three major cities in India – Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore where there was a live demonstration of these looks. I couldn’t attend the show but my blogger friends who did said that Patrick was like a magician on stage creating beautiful hairstyles to go with Indian wear in a matter of just minutes!
Excited on his visit to India, Patrick said, “I have been associated with Wella Professionals for a long time now and I am extremely happy to showcase the modern vintage collection in India. It’s amazing to see women who beautifully carry long hair as they do in India. It is an absolute pleasure to be in a space where there is so much scope for experimentation. With the enthusiasm of all the stylists present India and an array of wonderful Wella Professionals products I see a bright future for India’s hair styling segment”
During the meet up with us bloggers, he was amazed to see that almost all of us had long hair! He was happy to debunk certain myths and gave us several tips on maintaining healthy, long hair:
- Most of us shampoo wrongly, he said. We just lather up the shampoo and rinse. The trick to getting the maximum benefits from shampoo is to leave it on for a couple of minutes before rinsing it out. This not only helps the added nutrients in the shampoo (vitamins etc) to work on the hair but also helps remove product build-up from the hair and scalp.
- He also said that it was a myth that you shouldn’t comb wet hair. For long hair, brushing it when it is dry and full of tangles causes more damage and hair fall as against gently combing it with a wide-toothed comb. He recommends detangling long hair when it is still wet / damp with a wide toothed comb starting from the bottom and gently working your way up.
- Just like the trick to great makeup is proper preparation of the skin, the trick to a great hairdo is proper preparation of the hair. This involves the application of the right kind of hair serums / styling products to your hair before you style it to prevent hair from getting heat damaged as well as to get a great finish.
- Patrick is one of the few hairstylists who actually likes the Indian tradition of oil massages for the hair. However, he says that after you shampoo the oil off, you do need to use a good serum on the lengths to ends to add a healthy shine to hair.
It was indeed a pleasure to meet the hair maestro and learn some fabulous haircare and hair styling tips from him.
