I have always been more fond of glossy/creamy lipsticks rather than matte ones because not only do I find the former to be more comfortable, but I also feel that they look better on my thin lips than the matte ones. So I was very happy when I got to know that Lakme was launching a new range of lipsticks that had a very comfortable texture and that were enriched with the goodness of Argan Oil. They sent across 5 shades from the new collection for me to try and here is my review on them…
Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Lip Color Review and Swatches
About the Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Lip Color
Price ₹750
“The hero ingredient in the Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Lip Color is of course, Argan Oil, also known as “Liquid Gold” in the beauty world. It is an ingredient that has shown it’s wonderous effects when it comes to skincare and haircare and now, Lakme has added this miracle ingredient for the first time to cosmetics. The range is all about adding rich tints to your pouts while ensuring your lips are taking care of. The gold packaging, done for the first time, represents Lakme’s beauty statement for the year “Liquid Gold”.
Packaging
The Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Lip Color come in a sleek, gold packaging that looks lovely. As with the Weightless Mousse Lip and Cheek Colors, these too don’t have any way of differentiating the shades except for reading the shade name printed in a tiny font at the bottom of the tube. But, with these lipsticks, I don’t really mind it simply because the gold packaging is so sleek and elegant. But yes, hunting for a shade is a difficult task.
Texture and Longevity
The Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Lip Colors feel very smooth and creamy on application. They go on with a bit of sheen but then settle down to a semi-matte finish. Or rather, a soft, satin finish. The lipsticks are decently pigmented but you need a couple of swipes to get complete, opaque coverage. They do feel very comfortable on the lips and don’t feel drying at all.
Since these are creamy lipsticks, they of course, don’t last as long as matte ones do. I get around 5-6 hours of wear if I don’t eat anything greasy. The lipstick survives light snacks and a coffee with a bit of fading from the inner rim but can’t hold out much against greasy stuff. It also transfers onto glasses / mugs or even your better half’s white shirt so you need to be careful.
Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Lip Color Soft Nude
Soft Nude is a light peachy-beige that would look lovely with a smokey eye. It would wash out skin tones darker than NC40 (unless paired with a slightly darker liner or when work with heavy eye makeup) but on lighter skin tones, it would make a great MLBB. I haven’t yet been able to click pictures of lip swatches but shall do so soon and shall share them on Instagram.
Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Lip Color Lush Rose
Lush Rose is the bright, summery pink that made me snap out of my browns-and-mauves phase and wear pink again. I have been wearing it to all events this week and I absolutely love it. It is a shade that would suit almost all skin tones.
Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Lip Color Dewy Orange
Dewy Orange is a mid-tone peachy-orange that looks brighter in the tube than in the swatch. It is a good colour for the summer months and for those who want to add a little bit of colour without being too bright or OTT.
Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Lip Color Drenched Red
Drenched Red is a warm-toned red. As with the Dewy Orange, this looks brighter in the tube than it does when swatched.
Lakme Absolute Argan Oil Lip Color Ruby Velvet
Ruby Velvet, a mid-toned neutral red, is very similar to Drenched Red. While in the tube it looks much deeper and darker than Drenched Red, when swatched, they are almost identical! I had to check the shade name twice to ensure that I wasn’t swatching the same lipstick by mistake.
And here are the swatches of these 5 shades:
As you can see, Ruby Velvet is just a wee bit darker than Drenched Red but on the lips you simply can’t make out.
My Views
A combination of lovely pigmentation and hydration, the Lakme Absolute Argan Oil lipsticks are creamy, non-drying and with quite a good wear time. They also come in a beautiful and elegant slim gold packaging which, unfortunately, doesn’t have any way of differentiating the shades. An affordable price tag is an added advantage as is the shade range of 15 shades with everything from nudes to deep berries and dark browns. There is something to suit everyone’s choice here and I really like how Lakme is innovating and launching such lovely new collections each year.
