The Body Shop Virgin Mojito Range Review

The Body Shop sent across three products for me to try out; the Body Scrub, the Body Butter and the Body Splash. The brand has managed to capture the exact fragrance of the the Virgin Mojito and each of these products smells like the refreshing drink, minty and citrusy.  Here’s a look at each of the three products and their ingredients:

The Body Shop Virgin Mojito Body Scrub (₹1,295 for 250ml)

The texture of this scrub is exactly the same as that of the Fuji Green Tea one – jelly-like transluscent base with white and green micro-granules. Again, just like the Fuji Green Tea scrub, it is a very mild exfoliator. It comes packaged in a transparent jar with a white plastic lid (unlike the Green Tea which has a silver lid) and I use a spatula to scoop out the quantity of product needed.  The fragrance, as mentioned earlier, is really zingy and freshens you up on a hot, muggy morning/evening. It doesn’t linger too long though, but it is enough to make your bathroom and bedroom smell citrusy for some time.

I really wonder, though, as to why The Body Shop, an allegedly environment-friendly brand, uses micro-granules in their scrubs when research has shown that these non-dissolving beads harm the marine life. (Read this article and this and this and many others). Try crushing one of those green beads and you will know what I mean.

The Body Shop Virgin Mojito Body Butter (₹1,095 for 200ml)

I have mentioned in an earlier post too that the TBS Body Butters have varying consistency across their many fragrances. While the Vanilla, Gingerbread and Shea ones are richer in texture, others like the Strawberry, Moringa and Fuji Green Tea are a bit lighter.  All of them are extremely hydrating though and really good for dry skin. The Virgin Mojito Body Butter belongs in the richer category and is just the pampering my super dry feet need at the end of the day. And the rest of my body too about a couple of times a week. The fragrance does linger on the skin for quite a while but isn’t an obvious, loud one.

Ingredients

Aqua/Water (Solvent), Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter/Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter (Emollient), Butyrospermum Parkii Butter/Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter (Skin Conditioning Agent), Glycerin (Humectant), Cetearyl Alcohol (Emulsifying Agent), Glyceryl Stearate (Emulsifying Agent), PEG-100 Stearate (Surfactant), Glycine Soja Oil/Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil (Emollient), Ethylhexyl Palmitate (Emollient), C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate (Emollient), Cera Alba/Beeswax (Viscosity Controlling Agent), Sesamum Indicum Seed Oil/Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil (Emollient), Parfum/Fragrance (Fragrance Ingredient), Bertholletia Excelsa Seed Oil (Emollient), Dimethicone (Skin Conditioning Agent), Sucrose (Humectant), Caprylyl Glycol (Humectant), Phenoxyethanol (Preservative), Limonene (Fragrance Ingredient), Xanthan Gum (Viscosity Controlling Agent), Citral (Fragrance Ingredient), Tocopherol (Antioxidant), Disodium EDTA (Chelating Agent), Sodium Hydroxide (pH Adjuster), Linalool (Fragrance Ingredient), Citric Acid (pH Adjuster), Citrus Aurantifolia Fruit Extract/Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Fruit Extract (Skin Conditioning Agent), Mentha Viridis Leaf Extract/Mentha Viridis (Spearmint) Leaf Extract (Fragrance Ingredient), Sodium Benzoate (Preservative), Potassium Sorbate (Preservative), CI 19140/Yellow 5 (Colorant), CI 42090/Blue 1 (Colorant).

Filled with loads of emolliants and humectants, this is one awesome body butter for really dry skin. There is phenoxyethanol but no parabens.

The Body Shop Virgin Mojito Body Splash (₹1,395 for 300ml)

The Body Shop Virgin Mojito Range Review

Looks and smells like something you would want to drink, TBS Virgin Mojito Body Splash is “an innovative new fragrance format inspired by the beautiful beach bodies of South America”. I noticed that despite layering it over the other Virgin Mojito products, the fragrance doesn’t really last too long when the Body Splash is used on the body. It does last longer when applied on the clothes though. What I find cumbersome about this Body Splash is the mode of application. You have to take some in the palm of your hand and splash it on. Like they used to show in the Old Spice advertisement of the 80s and 90s. I would have preferred to have the splash in a spray bottle so that it is easy to apply.

Ingredients

Alcohol Denat. (Solvent), Aqua/Water (Solvent), Parfum/Fragrance (Fragrance Ingredient), PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil (Emulsifier), Sucrose (Humectant), Ethylhexyl Salicylate (Sunscreen), Limonene (Fragrance Ingredient), Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane (Ultraviolet Light Absorber), Glycerin (Humectant), Citral (Fragrance Ingredient), Linalool (Fragrance Ingredient), Citric Acid (pH Adjuster), Citrus Aurantifolia Fruit Extract/Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Fruit Extract (Skin Conditioning Agent), Mentha Viridis Leaf Extract/Mentha Viridis (Spearmint) Leaf Extract (Fragrance Ingredient), Sodium Benzoate (Preservative), Potassium Sorbate (Preservative), Denatonium Benzoate (Denaturant), CI 19140/Yellow 5 (Colorant), CI 42090/Blue 1 (Colorant).

Of course the Body Splash would have alcohol in it….all fragrances do. But then, shouldn’t TBS call it just Mojito instead of Virgin Mojito 😉

My Views

Yet another wonderfully fragranced range from The Body Shop, the Virgin Mojito is certainly the refreshing touch needed in this heat. Of course, fragrances are a very subjective thing and what one person might like another might not. If you are fond of citrusy, minty, zesty fragrances, do check this range out.
