Finally, my blog is up again and there’s electricity at home! Those who follow me on Facebook would know that the server where my blg is hosted again had the same issues it had last month and I am so relieved that my blog is finally up once again. Then yesterday, there was a major short circuit and fire in my building and we were without electricity for close to 40hours! Well, the electricity is restored now but we are still not permitted to use major electrical appliances like the AC…
Anyway, coming back to the product. I can’t remember the last time I reviewed a compact powder but let’s talk about the Maybelline White Super Fresh Compact Powder.
About the Maybelline White Super Fresh Compact Powder
“The Maybelline White Super Fresh Compact Powder is a 12 hour perfecting compact which helps you look fresh, fair and always in control.
- It lasts upto 12 hours.
- No dabbing, washing or touchups necessary.
- Keeps you fresh and fair throughout the day.
- Absorbs sweat and doesn’t let your skin get patchy.
- Has pure perlite.”
The Maybelline White Super Fresh Compact Powder is packaged in a white case with a white outer cover. I really wonder why there is so much emphasis on “White” and “fair” since a compact is really not going to change the skintone. There is a nice mirror that is perfect for applying the powder on the go. The thin sponge-like applicator is something I didn’t like personally. I feel it deposits the powder in just one area and then doesn’t really help spread it out. My preferred mode of applying this powder is with a fluffy brush but if you’re travelling, then the sponge/puff is what you have to apply with.
Super Fresh? Yes, that is one claim I have to agree with that. It does make the skin look fresh all day and it does help control oil and doesn’t make the face look dull and greasy. And yes, you don’t need to touch up either. I have been wearing this powder (in the shade Shell) since the last couple of weeks and I have to admit that it does help in keeping the skin looking fresh and bright. Not fair, but bright.
The Maybelline White Super Fresh Compact Powder comes in three shades, Pearl, Shell and Coral. Just three shades take me back to the days when Lakme and Tips and Toes were the only beauty brands available and the compacts came in just Fair, Medium, Dark. However, these compacts are lightly pigmented so would suit almost all skintones.
Pearl is the lightest shade with more of a pink undertone. Shell is a medium shade with yellow tones while Coral is quite neutral and just a bit darker than Shell. If you are looking for coverage, then this isn’t the powder for you. Remember, this is a compact powder, not a powder foundation. The powder is quite fine milled and feels smooth but isn’t very pigmented. I had to use loads for it to show up in the swatch. However, because it does make the skin appear a bit brighter and helps in keeping it oil-free, it is great as a daily use compact. Whether you wear it over makeup or just by itself, it does keep you looking fresh through the day without requiring touchups. If you have very oily skin, then you might have to touchup the T zone after 4-5 hours but for me, in the current weather, it lasted all day.
When layered on, this powder does tend to look slightly cakey and emphasises any dry areas you might have on your face so apply it lightly.
This is a picture I took on my recent trip to Rajasthan. I had applied the shade Shell around noon and it was still making me look fresh at 4pm! There is no foundation or BB cream on my face either.
In this picture too, I am wearing only the Maybelline White Super Fresh Compact Powder in the shade Shell on my face. Again, no foundation or BB cream. And when I took this picture, I had been wearing the powder for almost 6 hours and had been out in the sun (which is why my cheeks appear a bit flushed). But can you see how fresh it is making me look?
Perhaps the best part of this product is it’s price….₹150!!! This is what I really love about Maybelline. They price their products at a really affordable price point without compromising on quality. At this price, this compact would be every college girl’s best companion since it would siut their pockets as well as keep them looking fresh all day. The only thing that I don’t like about it is the sponge/applicator but at this price, it’s Ok.
