“OPPO F1 Plus Selfie Expert – but this is a beauty and lifestyle blog!” – I can almost hear you think aloud. Yes, this isn’t a technology blog. But writing a blog inolves the use of technology. And technology today is an integral part of our lives through all the various digital devices that we use.
OPPO F1 Plus Selfie Expert Review
The mobile phone is the most popular digital device on the planet. Not only is it a “phone” that lets you make calls, it functions as your watch, office on the go, your calculator and above all, your camera. In this age of social media – Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Pintrest – it is the camera that usually determines a person’s choice of mobile phone. It certainly is true for me because all those who know me, know that I take almost all the pictures for the blog on my mobile (and edit them there too). And no matter how good a rear camera a phone boasts of, the front camera – so important for taking selfies – is usually neglected.
The OPPO F1 advertisements during the World T20 tournament with it’s 8MP front camera had intrigued me because here was a phone that realised the importance of good selfies. When I received an invite to be a part of the launch event of the OPPO F1 Plus, I was thrilled and eager to know more about this David that was about to take on the Goliath – the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus. After playing around with the OPPO F1 Plus for over 10 days now, I have to say I am impressed with this phone that combines the features of Android with the easy interface of iOS with the bonus of a fabulous camera. Read on to know more…..
OPPO F1 Plus Specifications
The OPPO F1 Plus is light, thin and comfortable with dimensions of 151.8mm x 74.3mm x 6.6mm. It is super sleek and super comfortable with a metallic ratio of 98.02%. But this pretty looking phone also packs a pretty powerful punch – 4GB RAM with an 8-core processor and a 64GB ROM (expandable upto 128GB) – the OPPO F1 Plus is ready to take on all the challenges of gaming, internet browsing or resource-heavy apps. Probably the best part about it is the 16MP front camera with the ability to pick up four times as much incoming light as other smartphone cameras. It also has ColorOS 3.0 with the look and ease of use of the iOS for an improved user interface. For more technical specifications, you can check out the website here.
OPPO F1 Plus vs iPhone 6
They say imitation is the best form of flattery and the folks at Cupertino must certainly be flattered with the design tribute that OPPO has paid them. The OPPO F1 Plus, at first glance, is almost identical to the iPhone. The minor differences are apparent only when you look closely and if you cover the logos at the back, it is a bit difficult to tell both the phones apart from a distance.
The OPPO F1 Plus and iPhone both have their main power buttons on the right and volume buttons on the left. Both also have the charging dock, audio jack, speaker grille and mike on the bottom while on the top rear, they have the camera and LED flash. Just the placements differ slightly in both. And the OPPO is slimmer and lighter than the iPhone.
Coming to the camera – which for me is a very critical and decisive factor when choosing a smartphone – the OPPO F1 Plus beats the iPhone hands down. I was contemplating making the switch to iPhone after seeing the amazing pictures on hubby’s phone but the F1 Plus takes even better pictures. Don’t believe me? Check this….
While the camera menu in the iPhone include the options to take Slo-Mo, Video, Photo, Square and Panorama, the camera menu in the F1 Plus has Time Lapse, Video, Pictures, Beauty and Panorama. The “Beauty” feature of the OPPO F1 Plus is the Beautify 4.0 which helps to highlight your best features while minimising flaws. Think of it as a photoshop for your face. Like the iPhone, you can also add various filters to your pictures, but the F1 Plus also has the added advantage of Ultra HD, GIF Animation, Double Exposure and Expert Mode.
OPPO F1 Plus vs Samsung A7
The Samsung A7 could be called a close competitor to the OPPO F1 Plus considering that the pricing is kind of similar and both have a 13MP rear camera. The front cam on the A7 is 5Mp while on the F1 Plus, as we already know, is a whopping 16MP. While both phones are pretty much the same in length and breadth, the A7 is a bit thicker and heavier than the F1 Plus.
While both the phones have the same specifications for the rear camera, the picture quality shows a big difference. A picture speaks a thousand words so just take a look…
The pictures on the Samsung A7 didn’t turn out as sharp and crisp and true to colour as those on the OPPO F1 Plus. And of course, neither did the selfies.
The incredible front camera on the F1 Plus clicks the most amazingly sharp and clear selfies. I can actually see each and every one of my freckles on it! But you also have the option of hiding those with the Beautify 4.0. Here are some pictures that I have clicked with the front camera of the F1 Plus without using the Beautify or any of the filters….
Now compare the clarity and sharpness of that pic with this one clicked on the iPhone 6…..
And of the above one with this clicked on the front cam of the Sony Xperia Z2…
I am impressed with the clarity of the selfies clicked on the OPPO F1 Plus! The 13MP rear camera also is pretty good and pictures are as clear and sharp as those taken on the 20MP rear camera on my Sony Xperia Z2…..
My Views
Priced at ₹26,990, the OPPO F1 Plus has features to rival the best of high-end phones. Besides being lightweight and sleek, it is also a powerhouse in terms of performance. I forgot to mention the VOOC Flash charger that is the fastest and safest charging technology to make the phone charge fast and give it a long lasting battery life! I also love the fact that unlike the iPhone, you have the option of expandable memory (or a dual SIM as your requirements may be). But best of all, I love the camera! If you want a smartphone that looks like an iPhone, performs like an iPhone (I’m talking about the user interface) yet is powered by Android, takes amazing selfies and costs half as much as the leading high-end phones, then I highly recommend the OPPO F1 Plus.
