Rouge Bunny Rouge Skin Soul Drops Foundation Essence Review

Our skin is dynamic – changing with the weather and our moods, looking great one day and horrid the next – which is why on some days we need just a sheer coverage foundation and on some, a higher one. A recent addition to my makeup collection is the Rouge Bunny Rouge Skin Soul Drops Foundation Essence – a highly pigmented foundation essence that can be blended with your serum / primer / moisturiser or even sunscreen to give you custom coverage depending on your skin’s requirements. I have been using, and loving some of their products (read post here). Do I love the Skin Soul Drops Foundation Essence as well? Read on to know…

About the Rouge Bunny Rouge Skin Soul Drops Foundation Essence

“Pure, simple, versatile: the Foundation Essence SKIN SOUL DROPS creates a demi-matte veil of beautifully adjustable coverage, ideal for all skin types (oily, combination, normal and even dry skin) and created to match a multitude of different natural complexions with just a few shades.”

The Rouge Bunny Rouge Skin Soul Drops Foundation Essence (quite a mouthful) comes in a dark frosted bottle with a rubber dropper encased in RBR’s signature black cardboard carton with flowers and insects from the Enchanted Garden printed on it. Despite knowing that this is a Foundation Essence and that the quantity in the bottle is 15ml, when I first saw the bottle, I was surprised at how small it was. The liquid foundation inside is very concentrated and highly pigmented and hence you just need a couple of drops per application.

Depending on the kind of coverage your skin needs, you can mix from 1 drop (sheer coverage) to 4 drops (full coverage) of the foundation essence with your skincare product or primer to create your custom skincare-infused-makeup with just the perfect coverage that you need. Because this foundation essence is highly pigmented, it even works as a concealer – all I do is dab a bit of the foundation directly onto the area that needs concealing, after I have applied the foundation.

Rouge Bunny Rouge Skin Soul Drops Foundation Essence – shade Lalla

The reason why the Rouge Bunny Rouge Skin Soul Drops Foundation Essence mixes so well with all kinds of skincare products – be it water-based or silicone based or even a facial oil – is because it has a complex of Jojoba, Mimosa and Sunflower waxes that naturally mimics the texture of skin’s sebum. Combined with lecithin-covered pigments and uniquely processed mica, the foundation essence creates a flawless, refined and fresh satin finish that feels weightless despite giving great coverage.

The Skin Soul Drops Foundation Essence is available in three shades – Miriam (for fair to light skin), Lalla (medium skin) and Yeshe (tan skin). These three shades are supposed to match with a wide range of skintones . I had thought that the shade Lalla would be perfect for me but, unfortunately, it turned out to be a bit too light…

Lalla would be suitable for skintones upto NC35. Yeshe would have been the perfect shade for my NC40 skin. As you can see in the swatch below, it is too light even for my inner wrist so of course, it is very light for my face. But you can also see how pigmented it is and how well it covers up the green veins.

But shade mismatch aside, I love the texture and finish of this foundation essence. It feels so comfortable and almost weightless on the skin while giving really good coverage. And it lasts really long too without fading or streaking. I have worn it the entire day and then gone clubbing till late and the foundation lasted through the late night dancing!

Though the shade is light, it looks perfect when I mix just one drop of the essence with a serum for sheer coverage as in the picture above. However, if I add more drops for a higher coverage, then it doesn’t work for me as it shows as being too light. For more coverage, I add 2-3 drops of the Skin Soul Drops with about half a pump of The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation since that foundation is a shade dark for me. I mix these with the Apivita Serum that I am currently using and the result is a beautiful satin finish with great coverage and a shade that is an exact match for me.

One thing is for sure though – the RBR Skin Soul Drops Foundation Essence isn’t something that you can reach out for when you’re in a hurry since it sin’t a slap-on-and-go foundation like the MAC Studio Tech. It does take a bit of time to mix and blend so it’s better to use it when you have some time on hand. The end result is definitely worth the time and effort though.

Priced at €59 (approximately ₹4500) for 15ml, this is certainly a luxury foundation with a luxury price tag. The fact that this is the price for a 15ml bottle makes it seem even more expensive till you realise how little you need per application. The tiny bottle is definitely going to last a long while. Besides, quality does come at a price. The texture, pigmentation and longevity of this foundation essence are fabulous and the fact that it is cruelty-free as well as free from cyclomethicone, fragrance and preservatives makes it worth every penny. This is the foundation that makes your skin look like beautiful skin – no cakeyness no mask effect.

What are your thoughts on such foundation drops? Have you tried any to get custom coverage? Do let me know in the comments below.
