OPPO A37 Review
OPPO A37 Specifications
The OPPO A37 comes in two colours – a soft, matte gold and a grey and just like the OPPO F1 Plus (reviewed here), is heavily inspired by the iPhone in terms of design and UI. In fact, from a distance, it would be a bit difficult to tell the OPPO A37 apart from the iPhone 6. It is slim and lightweight and looks like a high-end phone rather than the entry-level one that it is. It has an MSM 8916 Quad-core processor, 2GB RAM with 16GB storage expandable upto 128GB. It comes pre-fitted with a scratch-guard on the screen, a transparent silicone back cover, charging cord and adapter as well as earphones.
Here are the other specifications of the phone:
- Dimensions 143.1 x 71 x 7.7 mm
- Weight 136 g (with battery)
- CPU MSM 8916 Quad-core 1.2GHz
- GPU Adreno A306
- Memory 2GB RAM
- Storage 16GB internal
- Memory Slot MicroSD card (up to 128 GB)
- Display IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors, Gorilla Glass 4

- Battery Non-removable Li-Ion 2630 mAh battery
- Camera Rear 8 Mega-Pixel, Front 5 Mega-Pixel
- User Interface ColorOS 3.0, based on Android 5.1
One of the best things about Android phones (and the reason why I haven’t switched over to iPhone as yet despite hubby’s insistance) is that they are highly customisable and so, each smartphone brand can tweak it to give the users a unique interface. OPPO A37 has ColorsOS3.0 that is essentially Android but with the look, feel and easy navigability of the iOS making this phone really easy to use, even for novices.
The OPPO A37 also helps keep personal and professional life separate since it is a Dual SIM phone. Both of the SIM slots support 4G networks with top speeds of up to 150 Mbps. The third slot in the phone can be used for 128GB of memory expansion. You also have the option of backing up your contacts and messages to O-Cloud storage.
And now, coming to the part that excites me the most, the camera…
The OPPO A37 uses a front beauty camera with extra-large 1.4um pixels and a 1/4-inch sensor. This allows for more light to enter the camera, so you can take a bright and natural-looking selfie even in low-light conditions.
The “magic wand” that the OPPO A37 has (that the F1 Plus also has) is Beautify 4.0 which is the secret to beautiful, flawless selfies.
Using millions of users facial datas, OPPO has designed 7 different levels of intelligent beautify, with two modes for different skin tones. The A37’s real-time beautify feature gives you natural-looking, eye-catching shots that are so beautiful that you don’t need to retouch them or use any filters!
When I clicked this picture, I couldn’t stop staring at how flawless my skin looked. Even bright skintone with not a freckle in sight! Sigh! How I wish I looked like that all the time….And besides a tinted lip balm, I am not wearing any makeup at all in this picture. Incredible, isn’t it? It truly does live up to it’s “Brighten Your Selfie” tag line.
In these two pictures above, I am wearing a bit of makeup – just powder, black liner and red lipstick – and I lowered the setting on the Beautify4.0 to 2 so you can see some of my freckles and acne marks though my skin does look radiant and bright.
And it’s not only the front camera that is so good. The OPPO A37 sports an 8 Megapixel Rear Camera, featuring an Ultra-HD shooting mode, for capturing exceptionally clear and detailed photos. With extra-large 1.4μm pixels and a 1/3.2-inch sensor, the A37’s rear camera maximizes the amount of light that enters and minimizes noise in the final shot. The large pixels also work to bump up the dynamic range and give pictures a vivid depth and detail. Meanwhile, a large aperture enhances low-light and night-shot performance. Here are a couple of pictures clicked on the rear camera of the OPPO A37…
The rear camera of the OPPO A37 gives crisp clear pictures with rich colour tones as you can see in the unedited pictures above. The only editing I did was to crop them to the right size. It also performs very well in low lighting such as on a cloudy day….
While talking about features of a smart phone, we usually tend to overlook or forget that the basic feature of a smartphone is the, well, phone! The OPPO A37 has really good sound clarity and not much “voice is cracking” that usually happens in certain parts of my house where I always face network issues.
If you want a phone that looks like an iPhone 6, has similar user interface, is powered by Android, has dual SIM as well as expandable memory takes amazing bright selfies that make you look flawless and fits into your budget as well, then the OPPO A37 is a great buy at ₹11,990!
