L’OCCITANE Spa la Vie Review

L'Occitane Spa La Vie Review

To say that the last couple of weeks were month was draining would be an understatement. With both the boys taking turns to fall ill and a host of other things at home that required my attention, I was sleep deprived and in dire need of some pampering. So finally, last week, I decided to go for a much-needed, well-deserved massage at the L’Occitane Spa la Vie which is just a stone’s thow away from my home (relatively speaking – I’m talking about Bombay after all).

It was pouring with rain when I went for the massage and while I love the monsoons, it can feel a bit gloomy when you’re stressed. But the moment you enter the L’Occitane Spa la Vie, the soothing aroma and gentle music relax you almost immediately. It’s as though you can feel the muscles in your body sinking into a plush comfy armchair with a sigh of relief. While you fill in your details and medical history in the form, the welcome drink appears – a refreshing, warm concoction of ginger, basil leaves and honey.

I was finding it difficult to choose between the Aromachologie Relaxing Massage and the Deep Tissue Intense Relief Massage so based on my preference of firm pressure, the therapist recommended the Deep Tissue one for me. And it turned out to be one of the best massages I’ve had!

All the treatment rooms at the L’Occitane Spa la Vie are named after the different ingredients that go into the making of the L’Occitane’s amazing products like Almond and Angelica (read my post on my favourite L’Occitane products here). The Treatment Rooms – two of them for couples – also feature en-suite bathtubs and steam/shower cubicles and are very spacious too.

Coming to the massage, my therapist, Riju was excellent! She used a blend of geranium and rosemary mixed with grapeseed oil and was just fabulous as a masseuse. Each time she moved onto a different body part, she would ask me if the pressure was fine. The deep tissue massage also involved the use of accupressure with the elbows and she ensured that the pressure was firm but not painful. Like I said, it was among the best massages I had and left me feeling energised. Post massage, I wanted to relax for a while in the bathtub but Riju told me that taking steam or shower immediately after a massage isn’t advisable. It’s better to let the oils get absorbed into the skin so it’s best to shower after a couple of hours.

The soothing, luxurious ambiance and the wonderful treatment at the Spa la Vie made me wonder – why hadn’t I visited this place earlier? Especially since it’s not very far from my home at all! It is a cocoon of tranquility in the chaotic, rushed heart of South Mumbai and I am definitely taking up a membership there for hubby and me so that we can enjoy our monthly massages there.

If you have a L’Occitane Spa in your city, then I highly recommend that you check it out. The luxury and the pampering is truly worth it. Have you been to a L’Occitane Spa? Do let me know your experience in the comments below.
