A Riot of Cuteness and Colour – MAC Good Luck Trolls Collection

MAC Trolls Review and Swatches

Trolls takes me back to my childhood – a childhood filled with Fraggle Rock, Trolls, Glowbugs, My Little Pony and of course Tom and Jerry. My cousin used to absolutely LOVE all of these – especially Trolls – and still has her Troll lamp! Mind you she also has a 4 year old daughter who also adores Trolls! So it is obvious that I got very exited when MAC launched the Good Luck Trolls collection in adorable packaging. However, my excitement was a bit short-lived when I realised that I am a tad bit old for a collection such as this one – a collection that is a riot of colours. MAC was kind enough to send me some of the products from this new collection so check out the pictures and my first impressions…

About the MAC Good Luck Trolls Collection

“Hair we go!” The wild-haired dolls bring their rainbow tufts, bejewelled bellies and lucky charms to MAC Good Luck Trolls – a crazy-hued collection that is as silly as the creatures themselves. From Lipglass in Bubble Butt to Eye Shadow in Sun’s Out, Buns Out…being a troll has never been so glamorous.”

I received the following products from the MAC Good Luck Trolls Collection:

  • Eye Shadow in Silly Vanilly
  • Eye Shadow in Sun’s Out, Buns Out
  • Lipglass in Twerkquoise
  • Lipstick in Midnight Troll

They come in a purple case with the Trolls logo on them. The eyeshadows have a little troll embossed on them as well!

There are five shades in the Good Luck Trolls eyeshadows and I was sent two of them – Silly Vanilly and Sun’s Out Buns Out. Silly Vanilly is described on the MAC website as “white with very fine silver glitter” (Satin) while Sun’s Out Buns Out is “mustard yellow with pearl) (Veluxe Pearl).

Silly Vanilly feels slightly chalky and isn’t as pigmented as Sun’s out, Buns Out. The latter looks more gold in the pan than yellow but that is because it is a Veluxe pearl shade. It swatches as a beautiful light yellow gold on my medium-tan skin and is of course, more wearable (at least for me) than the white eyeshadow.

MAC Good Luck Trolls LipGlass Twerkquoise

I love the sparkly cap of the Lipglass in the Trolls collection. I can’t say the same about the shade Twerkquoise (though that’s such a fun, quirky name) since it is a “transparent sky blue with fine pink reflect”. Now, I’m not a blue nail polish person so blue lipstick and lipglass is something that is waaayyyy out of my comfort zone. However, this is a very transparent sky blue so I can try to layer it over other, more wearable shades of lipsticks and see if I can make this work for me. What do you think? There are three other shades in the MAC Trolls collection, all of which are more wearable than this one.

Now this is a shade that is certainly not for the faint-hearted. Nor for the 30-something-stay-in-my-comfort-zone lady either. Midnight Troll is a “rich blue matte” lipstick – a shade between dark navy blue and bright cobalt – and more suited to rocker-chic teens. I certainly don’t have the courage to even attempt to put it on my lips. Perhaps if I was going for a Halloween party then I might have but not otherwise. There are three other lipstick shades in the Troll collection – one of them being a lime green and the other two being a hot pink and a coral peach. So if, like me you feel like you want a lipstick from this collection for it’s adorable packaging but don’t want a blue, you can check those out.

Like I said, the lipglass is quite a translucent pale blue so it might work if layered over other, more conservative shades. And Sun’s Out Buns Out is a beautiful light gold that would look fabulous in weddingy looks.

I’m not sure of the prices of these products but I will find out and update this post. Let me know your thoughts on this collection and if you would wear a rich blue lipstick such as this one. Did you like the packaging? I’m looking forward to reading your comments.
