I put up this picture on Instagram this afternoon and mentioned that I would write about the products used to create it in the blog post tonight. Well, all the products I used for this look (except for the foundation and powder) came from this one box…..
When I came back from Thailand, I found a big parcel waiting for me. It was the Maybelline Instaglam box, Wedding Edition in Pink, filled with some of Maybelline’s best sellers to help girls create beautiful looks for the wedding season. The Instaglam wedding box is also available in Red and Coral variants and each box has the following products:
* Colossal Kajal (Rs. 175)
* Color Show Nail Color (Rs. 75) – Fiesta Fuschia (their spelling, not mine)
* Diamond Glow Eye Shadow Quad (Rs. 485) – Gray Pink
* Color Sensational Lip Polish (Rs. 450) – Glam 9
* Volum’Express Hypercurl Mascara (Rs. 250) – Very Black
* Cheeky Glow (Rs. 250) – Peachy Sweety
* Color Show Liner (Rs. 250) – Ocean Blue
While individually, the products total Rs. 2010, the Instaglam box is priced at Rs. 1499, which is a saving of 25%. That the products come packaged in a beautiful wedding-y box is the cherry on top and makes this box a perfect gift for a new bride or as gifts for the makeup enthusiasts in the family.
While I loved almost all the products in the box having used, loved and reviewed some of them earlier (Colossal Kajal, Cheeky Glow in Fresh Coral, Color Show in Orange Fix and Lip Polish in Glam 7) the Gray Pink eye shadow palette seemed a bit disappointing when I opened and swatched it. Not only were the shades too cool-toned for my skintone (and most Indian skintones), the grays and the silvery pink didn’t seem to appropriate for Indian weddings seeing as most Indian wedding wear usually has a generous amount of gold in it. The pigmentation too, wasn’t that good but yes, all four shades had a nice amount of shimmer in them. Also, when I checked the Instaglam boxes online, the Pink box is supposed to contain the eyeshadow quad in Wine Pink.
Anyway, I decided to do my favourite wedding look, a soft smoky eye.
I never use primers but since these didn’t look too pigmented, I wore the LA Splash eyeshadow base that I got in my May Fabbag to bring out the colours.
I used the pink shade all over my eyelid and blended the darkest gray in the outer corner of the eye and in the crease. Using an eye liner brush, I also applied that same shade on my lower lash line. A touch of silver in the inner corner and along the brow bone, Colossal Kajal on the upper lid and waterline, a coat of the Hypercurl mascara and my eyes were done.
I should have blended the silver a bit better though. And I don’t know why, no matter how well I blend the concealer in my under eye area, in the pictures, it always looks like I have deep hollows under my eyes (which I kind of do actually). Perhaps there’s some technique to it that I don’t know of? It looks fine when I look in the mirror, but in photographs…..
The Maybelline Lip Polish in Glam 9 is a beautiful mid-tone pink that’s just perfect, neither too light, nor to bright, nor too dark though perhaps, it might wash out skin tones beyond NC42. It is also nice to balance out the cheeks and lips with non-shimmery finishes when the eyes are shimmery and Maybelline has done that just right.
I simply LOVE this colour! Isn’t it beautiful? And of course, the Lip Polishes are glossy, yet pigmented and don’t dry your lips out!
Finally, a flush of colour on the cheeks with the Cheeky Glow in Peachy Sweety (satin finish, no shimmers) and I was done….Oh, and let’s not forget the bindi….
I think this look can truly be called Indian Shringar, what say? What do you think about this look?
