Those of you who follow me on instagram, must have seen the picture of two small bottles of fragrances I had bought from Marks and Spencer. I have actually lost count of how many such bottles I have bought and used up since they are so handy and convenient and I have one bottle in almost all my handbags. These two, Bohemia and Ruby Elixir are the latest additions…
BUAV approved cruelty free, made in UK and priced between Rs. 499 and 1299, there are several fragrances to choose from, packaged in sleek bottles that fit easily into handbags, what’s not to love about them? The first time I had bought one of those, I think around 4-5 years ago, was because I had forgotten to apply my perfume coz I left home in a rush. Since then, I have bought several of these and leave them in the purses and even cars for those times when I need an emergency fragrance fix.
An eclectic, fragrant blend of lemon, blueberry and bergamot with floral heart notes of lily of the valley, mimosa and gardenia drying down to warm aromas of cedarwood, amber and vanilla.
99% of these Marks and Spencer fragrances have been impulse purchases at the cash counter. These little bottles of temptation have been kept at the cash counter for people like me who get tempted and grab a couple and say “Bill these too”. I almost never sniff the tester before buying these but rely solely on the fragrance description and my instincts. And thankfully, I have chosen well with only one fragrance turning out to be too powdery floral for my taste.
In the case of Bohemia too, I bought it reading the description and seeing the kitschy packaging. It is an amber-y floral fragrance that is sweet yet musky. It is a very summery fragrance and feels really refreshing on a hot Indian summer’s day. The best thing is, that these fragrances don’t smell “cheap” nor do they have a very generic “deo-like” fragrance though they are priced so economically.
The wear time isn’t very great. These usually last on me for about 3-4 hours. Perhaps it’s olfactory saturation, but I can’t smell the fragrance on me after that time. However, it does linger faintly on my clothes all day. At least that’s what hubby and kids have told me.
Bohemia is priced at Rs. 499 for 25ml. Yes, don’t be shocked. Didn’t I say these fragrances are excellent value for money?
An intoxicating floriental fragrance, a seductive combination of rose and rich jasmine with tantalising raspberry and plum, on top of dark notes of patchouli.
I really wasn’t sure about this fragrance because “floriental (floral + oriental)” and “rose” aren’t what I usually like in my fragrances. However, I gambled on the jasmine, plum and raspberry because some of my favourite fragrances have these notes in them.
And my gamble paid of because this smells really nice. It is more spicy rather than musky and thankfully, the rose notes aren’t to prominent in it. Although the first time I sprayed it on, I didn’t really like it too much, but the middle notes kinda grew on me and I ended up liking the warmth of this fragrance.
The wear time is pretty much the same as Bohemia, but then it is really quite good for the price.
Ruby Elixir is priced at Rs. 799 for 30ml!
What do you think of these fragrances by Marks and Spencer? Have you tried any? Some of my other faves from them are ISIS, Per Una Exquisite and Blush.

I can totally understand. Both boys went through a phase where the only store they would enter is a toy store!! :p
