Mirror, mirror on the wall,
I want a polish, the prettiest of all.
Pink and feminine, but not too girly,
Shimmery but not too glittery.
If that’s the kind of nail polish you’ve been hunting for, then look no further, coz here’s a polish from Bourjois that meets the above criteria. It is a beautiful fuchsia pink, almost magenta, but not a girly one. It is shimmery but not chunky glittery. Presenting Bourjois 1 Seconde Nail Polish in #13 that I had bought when I had hauled quite a bit of Bourjois stuff in August (read haul post here).
Packaging
The Bourjois 1 Seconde polishes remind me of the city the brand calls home, Paris. Why you ask. Because the shape of the bottle reminds me of the Eiffel Tower. And the beautiful, balmy July day when we had visited it and had a leisurely icecream in the Jardin des Tuilleries afterwards…anyway, I digress….
Coming back to the polish. The cap is long and tapered and has textured oval panels on it that makes it very easy to hold and apply polish. Also, as with all Bourjois polishes across all collections, the cap and the bottle are of the same colour as the polish within which makes your Bourjois polish collection a pretty and colourful sight for sore eyes.
Texture and Brush
The best part about the Bourjois 1 Seconde polishes is the thick, fan-effect brush. Because of this brush, Bourjois claims 1 nail = 1 stroke = 1 second. While that is true for the nails on my little and ring fingers, I do need two strokes to cover the nails on my other fingers and thumbs with polish.
The texture of this polish is also fabulous. It goes on smoothly without streaking and gives opacity in just one coat!
Colour and Swatches
#13, Bikini Pailette, is a beautiful dark fuchsia with silver, purple and fuchsia micro-shimmers. In the sunlight / yellow lighting, it looks brighter and leans more towards magenta while in white light or darker/muted lighting, it looks darker and slightly more cranberry-ish, or sometimes, even purplish.
The name of the polish isn’t mentioned anywhere on the bottle and neither is this polish featured anywhere on any of Bourjois’ international websites (which makes me wonder if this is a discontinued colour). I managed to find the name of this polish on ebay. I wonder why this pretty colour isn’t on their websites especially as the festive season is the perfect time to wear it.
Anyway, here’s how this gorgeous colour looks on my nails. I took these pics in sunlight so that you could see just how beautiful this colour is.
I am wearing just a single coat of the Bourjois 1 Seconde polish no. 13 without any base / top coat. You can see how opaque it is in just one coat. Of course, if you want it to last longer, you need to wear a top coat. Another thing about Bourjois polishes that I really appreciate is that they don’t stain my nails, not even these dark colours even when I’m not wearing base coat.
Price
This is my biggest gripe with Bourjois. They seem to keep hiking their prices each time you blink!!! Ok, I’m exaggerating, but honestly, these polishes used to be Rs. 380, then they increased the price to Rs. 470 when I bought it. Don’t know if they have increased the prices again since I haven’t visited a Bourjois counter in quite a few weeks.
Besides the price though, Bourjois polishes are among my favourite and form quite a big part of my nail polish collection. Did you like this colour?
Your blog is fab! I love these nail polishes, need to buy some more colours! I’ve just done a review on my blog, you can read it here.
