5 Favourite Products From L’Occitane

I love all things French (well, almost all…being a vegetarian, there’s not much I can love in french cuisine) and L’Occitane is one of them.

Started in 1976 in Provence, France, L’Occitane skincare products and fragrances are natural and authentic, effective and appealing.

These are my  5 favourite products from L’Occitane (except for the Shea Butter Foot Cream which I recently finished and haven’t had the time to re-purchase, so I dont have that in the picture).  My “love affair” with L’Occitane started three years ago when, on a holiday in Paris, there were l’Occitane toiletries (Verbena shower gel and body lotion) in our hotel room.

Verbena Shower Gel and Body Lotion

I have lost count of how many times I have re-purchased the Verbena Shower Gel and Body Lotion. I especially love the 75 ml size coz it is perfect for travelling. The fragrance is a fresh, lemony-citrusy and not artificial at all. It lathers quite nicely and doesnt leave the skin dry.

The lotion is light and easily absorbed into the skin. It is hydrating enough for Mumbai winters though I think for more severe winters, a thicker cream or body butter would be more suitable.

Plum Blossom Shower Scrub Gel and Moisture Gel

This was a limited edition collection though I believe they still have it in some stores and on their website at a discount. It has a fruity-floral fragrance which is very fresh and light. What I love most is that it is a shower gel+ scrub. It is enriched with fine almond shell granules and transforms into a rich, creamy foam that cleanses as well as exfoliates. I feel that this is  perfect for use in summer/monsoons or on beach vacations when skin needs gentle exfoliation along with cleansing.

The moisture gel has more of a gel-crème texture rather than just gel and lightly moisturises the skin leaving it soft, supple and delicately fragranced. Like the shower scrub, the moisture gel’s texture makes it perfect for use in warm and humid weather. I like this collection so much, I am going to pick up more bottles of these two before they are totally out of stock.

Shea Butter Hand Cream/Fleur Cherie Hand Cream
Hand Cream with 20% Shea Butter

The Shea Butter Hand Creams have become quite a cult product…and for a very good reason too…because they perform and do what they claim to. Really moisturises, hydrates and softens the hands. Besides the high content of Shea Butter, it also has extracts of Linseed, Honey, Sweet Almond fruit, Coconut oil, Rapeseed, Rosemary Leaf and Sunflower seeds.

The cream is very thick, highly emollient, easy to spread, easily absorbed and non-greasy. And though it is expensive (it is L’Occitane after all), you just need a pea-sized amount so the tube lasts quite a while. It has a very mild, subtle fragrance which I am not too fond of, I prefer the lavender fragrance of the foot cream. But this is the best hand cream I have ever used and I am currently on my fourth tube.

Limited edition Fleur Cherie Hand Cream

Enriched with Grapeseed oil and Shea Butter, this non-oily cream also contains Neroli and Orange Blossom absolute as well as coconut oil, sunflower seeds and rosemary leaf extracts. I bought this hand cream to try out the new fragrance and while it is nice, the texture is not as thick as the Shea Butter cream but it is very moisturising anyway.

Lip Balm

I bought two of these Ultra Rich Lip Balms with 10% Shea Butter. One is the lipstick-like twist up tube and the other one is a squeeze tube, both very hydrating.

The twist-up tube is a bit hard and you need a couple of swipes to get some product on your lips (at least initially). It softens and moisturises the lips but doesn’t make them look shiny which is why, I feel this is perfect to layer under lipstick. (Just make sure to apply lipstick about 10 minutes after this.)

The squeeze tube has a tiny opening from which you squeeze out the lip balm. I dont use this directly on my lips. Instead, I take a tiny quantity on my finger and then apply it to my lips. It instantly softens and hydrates the lips and unlike the twist tube balm, this one does give a shiny, “wet” appearance to the lips. Since you need such a minuscule amount per application, this little tube lasts for ages!!!

100% Pure Shea Butter

The STAR product. My absolute favourite from L’Occitane, this is a cute little magic tin. It is 100% PURE Shea Butter, no fragrance, no preservatives, no chemicals. It is a little hard and you have to melt it a bit on your finger tips or in your palms before applying but this nourishes and hydrates like nothing else. I use this over my very dry and rough elbows and knees where nothing else has worked and it makes them soft and smooth. It is also perfect as a lip balm but since I already have loads of lip balms (two of them L’Occitane ones mentioned above), I use those.

My elder son recently had contact dermatitis and this shea butter worked wonders on the dry, scaly patches. It is also great as a diaper cream and keeps the baby’s bottom soft, smooth and rash free.

I  am now really eager to try out L’Occitane’s range of hair care products, shampoos, conditioners and hair masks but knowing how weird my hair has become these days and how expensive L’Occitane products are, I am apprehensive about buying them.

But, hey, these are my favourite L’Occitane products. Which ones are yours?
