When I had first reviewed the Maybelline Colossal Kajal two years ago (read post here) I had wished that they would launch more shades in this long-lasting, smooth wearing, smudge-resist eye pencil. And yup, Maybelline did come out with new shades; first the pretty Turquoise and now, three more shades, Jewelled Jade, Smoked Silver and Crushed Emerald. While I haven’t reviewed the Turquoise shade as yet, here’s the review of the other three shades….
About the Maybelline Colossal Kohl
“The first of it’s kind in India with 2 in 1 benefits of a Kohl and an eyeliner. Go all out with glamorous eyes with the most exciting Colossal Kohl, which lines like a kajal and defines like a liner. The Colossal Kohl is a refreshing twist on the conventional black Colossal Kajal and a must have fashion and beauty accessory. Here’s why you’ll love it:
- Provides 12 hours of smudge-free intensity.
- Colour doesn’t smudge or fade.
- Enriched with nourishing ingredients and Vitamin E to soothe the eyes.
- Features a unique tip that glides smoothly for even application. “
The Maybelline Colossal Kohl comes in the same yellow packaging as the Colossal Kajal but there’s no outer carton listing out the ingredients. The body of the pencil has all the lettering in the same shade as the colour of the kohl which makes it very easy to identify the shades, especially if you have all the shades. And you SHOULD have all the shades, not only because the colours are so lovely, but also because of how affordable they are!
Jewelled Jade is a beautiful teal. Worn along the lower lash line, it gives your eyes a pop of colour for a fun summer look. If you’re wary of wearing bright colour on the eyes, this is a good shade to start with.
Smoked Silver is just like the name suggests – a smoky greyish-silver that is fabulous when worn as a smoky eye. You don’t even need any eyeshadow; just line your eyes thickly with this, smudge it a bit and you’re done. It looks darker on the lids than it does in the swatches. I have worn it in this pic….
Crushed Emerald is my favourite shade of these three. I love jewel tones for the eyes and this one is simply gorgeous. It is a deep emerald green with a little bit of shimmer in it (but no chunky shimmer that hurts the eyes) and is a colour that I reach out for very often.
In terms of pigmentation, you can see that these pencils are awesome. The texture, however, isn’t as creamy and smooth as the original black one, perhaps because of the added shimmer in these?? They do tend to tug slightly on the eyelid but over time, you get the hang of applying it in a way that it doesn’t tug on the skin.
Just like the Colossal Kajal, once they are set, they are smudge and budge proof unless you happen to rub your eyes vigorously. And why would someone do that, right? There have been times when they have out-lasted the 12 hour claims as well! On a couple of occasions, when I’ve had a late night and have gone to bed without removing my makeup, the liner has been pretty much intact the next morning with a little smudging on the lower lash line.
Priced at ₹249, the Colossal Kohls from Maybelline are something that every girl must have in her makeup bag. For this price, I doubt you’d get the same quality and pigmentation in any other brand. So, go ahead and prettify your peepers with these 🙂 And hope that Maybelline launches some more gorgeous shades, a deep aubergine with gold shimmer or a sapphire blue, in this range.
