There are some things open up the flood gates of memories. Vicco Turmeric is one such product – the orange and yellow tube, the pale yellow cream, the jingle which went “Vicco Turmeric, nahi cosmetic” – all bring back memories of childhood, memories of my Nani (maternal grandmother) using it (she only used Vicco Turmeric and Afghan Snow). Recently, when I went to my chemist to buy some medicines, I saw someone buying a bottle of Vicco Turmeric. This piqued my curiosity and ofcourse, I had to buy it too – it was the new Vicco Turmeric Skin Cream in Oil Base – a lightweight body moisuriser. Read on to know my thoughts on this Ayurvedic cream with turmeric extracts.
About the Vicco Turmeric Skin Cream in Oil Base

“The Vicco Turmeric Skin Cream in Oil Base has a moisturising effect on the skin. It takes care of your dry skin in dermatological conditions during all climates. It prevents drying of the skin leaving a protective film on the skin. It prevents and cures infections and boils and helps to cure wounds and burns. It nourishes the skin, improves tonal value and makes it beautiful.”
Texture, Fragrance & Hydration
The Vicco Turmeric Skin Cream is a light, fluffy cream – thicker than a lotion, but lighter than a cream – that is very easy to apply onto the skin. Unlike some creams that need to be really rubbed in, this one gets absorbed nearly instantly, moisturising and hydrating the skin. With the current increase in temperature, I find this to give me the perfect hydration that keeps my skin moisturised all day. I don’t find the need to re-moisturise my skin during the course of the day. Of course, in colder, drier places, you might want something richer for winter but for light hydration, the Vicco Turmeric Skin Cream in Oil Base is perfect for using all year through because there is no sticky or greasy feeling.
What I really love about the Vicco Turmeric Skin Cream in Oil Base is that, despite being a cream, it comes in a bottle with a pump. Like I mentioned above, it isn’t a very thick cream and the pump makes it easy to get the required quantity out and is hygienic too.
This Ayurvedic cream is pale yellow and has the same distinctive fragrance as the Vicco Turmeric cream – a blend of sandalwood and turmeric. The fragrance is mild and pleasant and lingers on the skin all day. It is pale yellow in colour but doesn’t tint the skin yellow neither does it stain clothes yellow (which is a concern several people have when using products with turmeric).
We Indians know how miraculous turmeric is – it is called a golden spice because of it’s healing and anti-septic properties. Even today, when anyone in my family gets a cut or wound, we clean the wound and use turmeric powder to stem the bleeding. It has anti-bacterial properties that help prevent infections too.
The Vicco Turmeric Skin Cream in Oil Base has 12% w/w (weight per weight – concentration of solid dissolved in another solid) Turmeric extracts that make it great for protecting skin from minor infections. I had a bit of itchy rash on the base of my neck (caused by abrasive fabric of one of my tops) and this cream helped soothe it and reduced the redness and itchyness too.
To Sum It Up
Vicco Turmeric has been trusted since generations for it’s good quality, genuine products. In several households, it’s like a skincare secret that is passed on from mother to daughter (like it was in mine) so I am really happy to see this new avatar which is not just for the face but for the entire body. As we all know, Vicco products are Ayurvedic, cruelty-free and vegan as well as affordably priced which is the icing on the cake. I am glad I bought this cream because not only is my skin loving it, each time I use it, the fragrance brings back memories of my Nani. Do try it out, you will like it too.
