Who doesn’t love multi-tasking products? And if it has pretty, shimmery colours, is hand-crafted in Italy and comes in chic black packaging, who can resist it? Wondering what I’m talking about? It’s the iconic Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Bronze….
About the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick
“Shimmer Brick instantly creates a gorgeous, lit-from-within glow.” – Bobbi Brown.
“The original Shimmer Brick compact, this shimmering brush-on powder creates a deep, bronzy glow. This compact features superfine pigments that reflect radiance and light.”
Packaging
The Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick comes in the same chic, glossy black packaging as all the other Bobbi Brown products. While it certainly looks gorgeous and luxe, it is also a magnet for finger prints. The mirror inside the compact is quite a big sized one making application/touch-ups really easy.
Shades and swatches
All the Shimmer Brick compacts come with five shades and this Bronze one has all warm shades. They are absolutely beautiful, shimmery shades that glisten in the sunlight and that made it really difficult for me to photograph them.
I took these pictures in bright sunlight and you can see that the last two shades appear to have more rose-gold tints to them than bronze.
At the top of the palette is a pale gold, then comes a pink champagne gold followed by a gold, a deeper rose gold and finally, a bronze. The shimmer in these is really fine and and subtle; no chunky glitter particles here. The powder is silky smooth and velvety to touch and goes on beautifully. The shades in this palette are actually quite dark to be used as just highlighters, but then, this isn’t just a high-lighting palette. It is a multi-tasking one so the shades can be used individually as eyeshadows or just swirled together and used as a blush/bronzer.
The colours are also very pigmented and one swipe gives pretty good colour pay-off. I anyway don’t normally use primers and with these, I didn’t even feel the need to.
I have swatched the shades from the bottom of the palette to the top. The first three shades that I have swatched look beautiful as eyeshadows. Surprisingly, they lasted very well when worn as eyeshadows, 6+ hours without fading, and didn’t crease either! The two lighter shades can be used as highlighters on even in the inner corners of the eyes or under the brow bones. When I first tried them out, I was amazed at how “rosy” these shades look as against ” bronzy” but I guess that could be because of the sunlight.
I have lightly swirled all the shades together and worn them as a blush in this pic (check out the look post here) and you can see what a pretty, radiant wash of colour it gives. Of course, you have to be careful with shimmery colours such as these because if you use too much, they can accentuate the pores.
Price
The Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick is priced at ₹3100 for 10.3g.
My views
This little compact of five shimmery shades is indeed gorgeous, besides being pigmented and buttery smooth. Whether worn on the eyes or the cheeks, it easily lasts for 5-6 hours. Oily skin girls and ones with open pores need to use it sparingly since the shimmer, if overdone, can make your pores appear huge. It is expensive but it’s fabulous. There are dupes available from other brands but I can’t comment on the quality and pigmentation of those since I haven’t tried any of them.
