The July Vellvette Box Leaves Me With A Comme Ci, Comme Ça Feeling.

“Our desires always disappoint us; for though we meet with something that gives us satisfaction, yet it never thoroughly answers our expectation.” – Elbert Hubbard

After three wow boxes (okay, two boxes and one bag) in a row, my expectations from the July Vellvette Box were sky high! And once I read on the Vellvette Facebook page that the theme for the July box was “Quick fix”, my mind was filled with images of highlighting/concealing pens (à la Touche Éclat), tinted pimple busters that heal while covering the nasty zits, anti-frizz serums and multi-purpose products (like Benefit Fine-One-One) that can be used for lips, cheeks and eyes.

So, I guess it is natural that my first reaction upon opening the Vellvette box, was that of disappointment though the products I got in the box are quite good and included two full sized products. Oh, and it was back to the black box this month instead of the cute pink pouch 🙁

Here’s what I got in my July Vellvette box:

Sally Hansen Miracle Cure

This is a full sized, 13.5ml bottle and is a strengthening treatment that guarantees 50% stronger nails in just three days. My nails aren’t damaged or anything, but its good to use a strengthening treatment as a base coat.
Crabtree and Evelyn VIP Kit

Ohkaaayyy….please explain how two sample sachets constitute a VIP kit! When I’ve visited Crabtree and Evelyn stores abroad, I’ve received such sample sachets complimentary with purchase of products or, a couple of times, even without purchase. I have several such sachets from L’Occitane that I’ve received complimentary with purchases. Yes, this kit also contains a membership card which gives a 10% discount on purchase but I’m a bit disappointed with this.
LA Splash Lash Splash Mascara – Black

This is the other full-sized product. Apparently, this mascara lengthens and thickens and nourishes the lashes. But since I’m not much of a mascara wearer, I couldn’t get myself too excited about this product. I haven’t even used the Max Factor mascara I got in the April Vellvette Box!

Bling Nail Appliqués (Bonus)

Nail art has never been my thing. I admire it on others but I’ve always preferred nicely polished nails for myself. I might have probably enjoyed trying out nail art stickers with a variation of a French mani with a little bling or something but the design of these is just…meh.

Layla Nail Polish #19 (MMMM Bonus)

This is cuteness in a bottle! Such a lovely shade. I’ve heard a lot about Layla polishes, especially their holo ones so I’m glad I got this, and such a pretty colour too (hope it looks good with my skin tone though).

So, overall, this is quite a decent box and it is really good value for money too. My disappointment with it stems from my high expectations and my vision of the theme “Quick fix”. Let’s see what August brings for us…….

  1. SO pretty !! The nail arts r cute !

  2. your layla polish is so lovely, i got neon and believe me its no different from Colorbar lime margarita which i have, so it was a downer!!
stickers looked tacky to me, somehow quality doesnt look good. Crabtree and Evelyn samples maybe i would have enjoyed but big time happy thing is the Sally Hansen Miracle cure. Its just doing wonders 🙂

I would freak out if I got Benefit Fine One One or Touche Eclat in a box. And never be the same person again rofl. I like your nail colour, it’s useable. I got virulent neon pink which you can see from Mars with your naked eye.
