I love using scrubs because they make my skin feel so clean, soft and smooth. These days however, I don’t use them too often because the Mirenesse Pebblesonic (reviewed here) takes care of the exfoliation as well as keeps my skin super soft. And yet, there are days when it needs some extra scrubbing, like when I’ve slept with my makeup on. If you follow me on instagram, you would have seen this picture I put up on saturday morning of a scrub + oil blend….
Recently, on the days I feel my face needs a thorough, ultra-deep cleansing, (slept with makeup, been out in Bombay pollution the whole day) I resort to this combination of Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil (review here) mixed with the Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish. The oil deeply cleanses the leftover makeup, grime, pollution etc while the facial polish exfoliates the dead cells and helps clear out the black heads and white heads without drying out the skin!
You already know about the oil, now read the Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Polish Review:

INGREDIENTS
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Black Strap Powder, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Petrolatum, Glycerin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Candelilla Wax Esters, Peg-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Polysorbate 20, Beeswax, Cetyl Alcohol, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Powder, Fragrance, Carapa Guaianensis Seed Oil, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil
No alcohol, no parabens, no phenoxyethanol and no artificial colouring! Isn’t that wonderful? Besides, it also has Vitamin E, Shea butter, Andiroba oil and Cranberry oil for added moisture and anti-aging benefits. So those of you with dry skin can also use this polish to get rid of all the flakiness. And yes, it does effectively remove all the leftover makeup from your pores leaving your skin looking fresh and radiant.
PACKAGING
The Klairs Gentle Black Sugar polish comes in a brown plastic pot that actually looks like glass. It has a screw-on lid and a tight inner lid as well, perhaps to prevent product spillage. Not that spillage is possible with a product as thick as this. Not many people prefer jars or pots since they find it unhygienic but I use a spatula to scoop out the scrub so I’m ok with it. And anyway, with such a thick, granular scrub, it would be difficult to squeeze it out from a tube.
TEXTURE AND EFFICACY
At first glance, the Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish looks identical to the Forest Essentials Rupam Body Polish. In fact, it even smells pretty similar to it! It is only when you actually feel the texture that you realise that they are different. The Sugar polish is more granular and might feel harsh for those with sensitive skin. Which is why, Klairs recommends using it with the Cleansing Oil so that it effectively exfoliates and yet doesn’t feel harsh or damage the skin. Since I have been using sugar+lemon juice on my face since a couple of years, I am fine with the texture.
Can you see the sugar granules? |
As a facial polish, it certainly does what it claims to. Exfoliates and polishes the face, makes skin smooth, removes patches of dry skin and also keeps whiteheads and blackheads away. If the granular texture feels rough, you can make a paste with the Cleansing Oil and it will actually be gentle on your skin. I would really recommend this for those who have open/large pores because it cleans out all the gunk from the skin and makes the pores appear minuscule!
