For all beauty-obsessed girls like me, Colourpop is a brand that needs no introduction. It has taken the beauty world by storm with it’s insanely pigmented and incredibly affordable makeup – especially the liquid lipsticks since the formula (and some of the shades) are almost identical to that of the Kylie Cosmetics Liquid Lipsticks. (Colourpop and Kylie Cosmetics are sister companies – just FYI). I kept resisting the urge to place an order on their site for a couple of reasons; the exorbitant $25 international shipping charges and the Mumbai Customs Department which seems to have some kind of personal vendetta against me. However, in September, when Colourpop reduced their shipping charges to $4.95, I could resist the temptation no longer and placed an order for some lipsticks and eyeshadows which I received in October (and had to pay heavy customs duty for it) .
The shades in the Colourpop Ultra Metallic Lip range were gorgeous so with the festive season round the corner then, I ordered three shades from that range – Man Eater, Zebra and 3-Way. So here is the review…..
Review and Swatches of the Colourpop Ultra Metallic Lip in Man Eater, Zebra and 3-Way
About the Colorpop Ultra Metallic Lip
“The Colourpop Ultra Metallic Lip is a super intense, metallized liquid lipstick dripping with high impact metallic pearls. This non-drying formula was created to be luxurious and smooth and to leave a super comfortable feel on the lips. While the formula is not completely transfer-resistant, it is extremely long wearing.”
Packaging and Texture
The Colourpop Ultra Metallic Lip comes in a transparent tube with a silver holographic logo on the body in a white outer carton. The logo fades off pretty soon – it has almost totally vanished from the tubes of Zebra and 3-Way since those two are the ones I use most frequently.
The applicator is a regular doe-foot one with a tip slim enough to get a precise shape for the outlines of the lips. It also picks up adequate product for one application.
The Colourpop Ultra Metallic Lip has a really smooth, soft mousse-like texture and goes on very comfortably on the lips. It settles pretty fast too but isn’t totally transfer-proof even after settling. So you are bound to get some marks on the rim of your glass / cup. The shades are insanely pigmented and you need just a thin layer to get complete coverage.
Swatches
Colourpop Ultra Metallic Lip in Man Eater
Colourpop Ultra Metallic Lip in Man Eater is described on the Colourpop Website as a “Shimmering rose gold metallic” and looks WOW in the swatch there. The swatch and the “rose gold” in the description compelled me to add this to my cart but to be honest, this is the shade I like the least of the three because it looks weird on my skintone.
Don’t get me wrong, the shade is actually beautiful. It’s just that it doesn’t look nice on me. Perhaps I should try layering it over a darker lipstick – a red or a fuchsia perhaps – and see how it looks.
Colourpop Ultra Metallic Lip in Zebra
These metallics are very difficult to capture in pictures in the daylight because of the metallic pearls in them reflecting the light. Colourpop Ultra Metallic Lip in Zebra is described as a metallic rose bronze and it is truly lovely. I don’t see any pink tint in it however, on my lips it’s just bronze.
Colourpop Ultra Metallic Lip in 3-Way
This is my favourite of all the three shades. I hadn’t thought that such a dark metallic shade would suit me since I have thin lips, but surprisingly, it does look nice on me. Colourpop Ultra Metallic Lip in 3-Way is a plum metallic with golden sparkles. This lipstick has more noticeable sparkles than the soft pearls in the other two and the purple-plum shade is lovely!
My Views
Priced at just $6 a lippie, the Colourpop Ultra Metallic Lip has some really beautiful shades and is definitely worth value for money (unless you live in Bombay and have to pay heavy Customs Duty to the Mumbai Customs Department). These lipsticks look different under different lighting – more cool-toned in daylight and warm-toned under the yellow lights at night. Guess it’s to do with the way the pearls reflect light. Whatever it is, they are simply gorgeous and I highly recommend them especially for the wedding / festive season.
Do you like Metallic lipsticks? Which of these shades did you like the most? Let me know in the comments 🙂
The maneater shade is too good!
