In October this year, Himalaya – one of the leaders in herbal healthcare products in India – launched a new range of products specifically for new mothers and their infants. They sent this range to me but it has been such a busy, hectic time that I stashed these products away and then completely forgot about them till recently. While I’ve been a mommy since a decade, I still decided to try out these products and give you my impressions on them. So read on to know more about the Himalaya For Moms Range of bodycare products for new moms and babies….

Himalaya For Moms Toning Massage Oil
Price ₹200 /200ml. Available here.
No matter which part of India you are from, a body massage for you and the baby is an absolute must after delivery. Indians have since centuries, known that a massage during the post partum days improves recovery, increases blood circulation, helps in toning and relaxing the muscles and relieves stress. Besides the actual massage, the kind of oil chosen for massage is also equally important and is chosen keeping in mind the season as well (coconut for summers and sesame for winters/monsoons).
The Himalaya For Moms Toning Massage Oil is enriched with the goodness of traditional Sesame Oil that tones and firms the skin, Winter Cherry that rejuvenates and nourishes the body, Country Mallow that soothes the skin and Lavender that calms the mind with it’s soothing fragrance. And the fragrance is truly lovely! Pure lavender! I can’t stop sniffing it because it smells so nice. Getting a masage with this oil would be truly relaxing.
Considering that this massage oil contains sesame oil, I was surprised to find that it isn’t sticky. I have used it a couple of times before my bath and it does soften the skin. But what I like most is to use it after my night-time shower because I find the aroma relaxes me after a long, tiring day and moisturises the skin while I sleep – just what I need in winters.
Himalaya For Moms Anti-Rash Cream
Pricec ₹75 / 20g. Available here.
Who said only babies get nappy rash? We girls all know that sanitary napkins can cause very painful rash as well. Rashes are caused by sweat and friction in the folds of the skin especially in areas such as inner thighs, under the breasts etc. The Himalaya For Moms Anti-Rash Cream not only helps reduce itching and rashes but also soothes minor cuts and scratches.
Unlike most other rash creams that have a very thick, clay-like texture, the Himalaya For Moms Anti-Rash Cream is like a thick cream. It doesn’t leave a clay-like layer on the skin like the Aveeno diaper rash cream does but intead gets absorbed and calms the itching sensation. The herbal actives in this include Yashad Bhasma (Zinc Calx – helps in wound healing) , Aloe Vera, Almond Oil and Manjishtha. However, it also has phenoxyethanol as a preservative.
Himalaya For Moms Nipple Care Butter
Price ₹75 / 20g
While the little toothless angels look adorable when they give a gummy smile, don’t be fooled. Those gums can be very, very painful on sore, cracked nipples even causing them to bleed! And I am talking from personal experience of nursing my two brats. The stretching of the skin, the feeding, the cleansing – all of this reduces the moisture in the already sensitive skin leaving it dry and prone to painful cracks. The Himalaya For Moms Nipple Care Butter has 100% natural oils that help in preparing the nipples for nursing as well as preventing them from getting sore and cracked.
The Himalaya For Moms Nipple Care Butter has an emollient, thick texture similar to that of Vaseline, but unlike petroleum jelly, it is non-sticky. It is formulated with Kokum butter, which is highly emollient, and virgin coconut oil. It also has a very faint caramel-y fragrance. My elder son had really dry, chapped lips which had started bleeding a bit (wouldn’t let me apply lip balms because they all have a bit of tint and shine) and two days of applying just a teeny-tiny bit of this butter healed them completely. I too, use this at times on my lips and can’t believe how soft and hydrated it makes them! And not sticky at all.
Himalaya For Moms Soothing Body Butter
Price ₹ 120 / 50ml. Available here.
The stretching of the skin during pregnancy makes it very dry and itchy. Post delivery too, the skin needs added hydration and this is why Himalaya as added three body butters in it’s range for moms. The Himalaya For Moms Soothing Body Butter has cocoa butter, glycerine and Vitamin E to moiturise the skin and comes in three variants – Rose, Lavender and Jasmine. I have already finished off a tub of the Rose body butter and now am halfway through the Lavender one.
The term body butter would, however, be a misnomer for what are essentially body creams. They are nowhere as hydrating as The Body Shop body butters but are great for when you need light hydration.
My Views
To be honest, I am not as kicked about these body butters as I am about the rest of the products in the Himalaya For Moms Range. The body butters are nice but nothing to rave about. I really love the Toning Massage Oil (especially it’s fragrance) and the Nipple Care Butter. It’s nice that the products in this range have largely natural ingredients (with the exception of the body butters) and are also priced pretty affordably. Do check out this range if you are pregnant or a new mother. Though, the oil would work as a relaxing post-shower night oil for almost all us stressed out ladies.
Have you tried any of the products from the Himalaya New Moms Range? Which products would you like to try? Let me know in the comments.
you’re right
