India’s premier beauty e-tailer, and one that has brands ranging from affordable to luxury, Nykaa recently launched a new range of highly pigmented lipsticks called the Nykaa Paintstix. I was invited to the launch event and right from the first swipe of the Paintstix, I have to say I was impressed. After using all the shades over these last two weeks, here’s my review of the Nykaa Paintstix along with the swatches of all the 12 shades.

Packaging
The Nykaa Paintstix come in 12 shades ranging from nudes to pinks, oranges to berries and even a dark almost-goth brown. So, there’s something for everyone in this collection.
Packaged in colour co-ordinated caps over matte black tubes, the Nykaa Paintstix resemble the MAC Liptensity lipsticks. However, the plastic of the lipsticks feels a bit flimsy, especially the twist mechanism. That, I feel, is a small compromise for a lipstick that is so pigmented and so affordable.
The outer carton of the lipstick is a bright and fun with shades of pink splashed on it “holi-style”.
Texture and Pigmentation
These cruelty-free lipsticks have a really creamy texture that glides on smoothly. There is no tugging on the lips and the pigmentation is insane! If you saw my Instagram stories during the launch, you would have seen just how pigmented they were and the great colour payoff they give with just a single swipe. While they claim to be matte, the finish is a lovely creamy satin finish – just the kind I like. These are also infused with Vitamin E and don’t dry out the lips.
The wear-time of the lipsticks varies across the shades with the lighter shades fading faster than the darker ones. On an average, the Paintstix last around 4+ hours depending on whether you eat or not. The darker shades also leave behind a stain as they fade and are quite difficult to remove. These aren’t transfer-proof so expect the lip ring to appear on your mugs and glasses.
Shades and Swatches
There are 12 shades in the Nykaa Paintstix, each with a fun name. I have swatched these in threes according to the shade numbers.
Shades 01, 02 and 03
01 Nude Spice – Let the crowd follow your lead. This warm nude shade is just enough to keep things spicy.
02 Cool Girl Nude – Bring out the cool gal in you. This cool-toned nude is all you need to do the job.
03 No Chill Orange -Don’t keep calm. Go ahead and freak out. This bright orange shade has the capability to pick you up on the gloomiest day.
Shades 04, 05 and 06
04 Peaches n Cream – Peaches n Cream is the sugar rush to your sweet tooth. This perky, peachy shade can never go wrong.
05 Tender Rose – Play the game and wait no more. It doesn’t get more girly and pretty than this lovely pinkish mauve.
06 Chick Flick Pink – Put on your cutest jammies and call your girlfriends over for a sleepover. Pink doesn’t get more fetch than with this vibrant shade.
Shades 07, 08, 09
07 Rock n Roll Pink – Put on your dancing shoes and get ready to tap your feet to the 90s beat. This purple-toned pink is nothing live you’ve ever seen.
08 Purple Monster -This bright purple hue is not for the faint-hearted. This audacious shade is sure to bring the spotlight on you whereever you go.
09 Bombshell Berry – Push and pull like magnets do. This deep berry hue is all you need to keep things interesting and is handmade for a hottie like you.
Shades 10, 11, 12
10 Rebellious Red – Don’t let anyone bring you down, be a rebel that nobody can ignore. When you need a pick me up, this bright red hue is enough to make you feel invincible.
11 Hearts n Kisses – Let love reign and let your lips give the sweetest kisses. This red with pink undertones is the prettiest red you’ll ever wear.
12 – Grunge Brown – Back up and wind it with this brown shade that is sure to give you that trendy 90s grunge look.
My Views
The texture is lovely and creamy, the pigmentation is amazing, the finish is satin (just the kind I love) and the price is super affordable. What’s not to love in the Nykaa Paintstix? Yes the packaging does feel a bit flimsy but I am willing to ignore that in favour of the pricing. I also loved the mix of shades so that everyone can find at least a couple of shades to suit their preference. While it is very difficult to choose one single shade from the lot, my personal favourites would be 01 Nude Spice, 02 Cool Girl Nude, 04 Peaches n Cream, 05 Tender Rose, 06 Chick Flick Pink, 07 Rock n Roll Pink and 09 Bombshell Berry.
