The Body Shop Elixirs of Nature EDP Review – Bowhanti, Swietenia and Nigritella

The Body Shop Elixirs of Nature EDP Review

While shopping from The Body Shop store recently, I came across a new range of fragrances that, I had surprisingly not heard about – the Elixirs of Nature – that comprised of 5 fragrances inspired by rare scents in nature and that were created using Headspace Technology. I bought 3 of them (since 2 were out of stock) and here’s my review…

The Body Shop Elixirs of Nature EDP Review

“For years we’ve roamed the most remote corners of the globe, and been inspired by the most precious natural scents. Rare botanicals that without protection, might disappear from the world. Using pioneering non-destructive Headspace scent extraction we’ve captured five precious aromas without harm, and recreated their essence to design unique fragrances, leaving nature wild as intended.

As part of our Enrich, not Exploit Commitment, we’ve used 100% non-destructive Headspace Technology to recreate these scents without threatening their sustainability or future existence. Headspace Technology is cocooning the plant / flower / wood in a hollow dome or glass sphere and creating a vacuum where the fragrance compound emitted can be captured, allowing it’s essence to be recreated and incorporated into a fragrance. The resulting fragrance is incredibly true to life – like an everlasting memory of the way the flower or plant smells in that exact moment.”

The Elixirs of Nature has 5 fragrances:

  • Swietenia – a Fresh Floral
  • Nigritella – an Oriental Orchid
  • Kahaia – a White Floral
  • Bowhanti – a Spicy Woods
  • Widdringtonia – an Aromatic Cedar

Of these, Kahaia and Widdringtonia were out of stock at the store so I bought the other 3.

The Body Shop Elixirs of Nature Swietenia EDP

“The subtle floral fragrance of Mahogany flowers combined with a sparkling breeze of orange flower and bigarade leaf absolutes for delicate freshness.”

The Body Shop Elixirs of Nature Swietenia EDP Review

This fragrance, just like the Benetton United Dreams Stay Positive one (reviewed here) somehow reminds me of an Indian wedding. Fragrances are a very personal experience and this is just the kind of image this fragrance evokes for me. It is a fresh floral  with citrus notes, nothing very sweet or overpowering. I would call this a “happy” fragrance because in a way, it smells “cheerful” to me.

The Body Shop Elixirs of Nature Nigritella EDP

“A luxurious fusion of red vanilla orchid with an opulent hint of tuberose and vanilla for a fiery sensuality.”

The Body Shop Elixirs of Nature Nigritella EDP Review

The Body Shop Elixirs of Nature Nigritella EDP is sweeter and a bit more “mature” than Swietenia. The Vanilla in it also adds a bit of sensual warmth to it and I can also sense a bit of musk in it. This would be a great fragrance for a date night. Sometimes, I also layer Nigritella and Swietenia for a fresh yet sweetly elegant fragrance that is very unique.

The Body Shop Elixirs of Nature Bowhanti EDP

“Bowhanti from the Wacapou tree is a smokey blend of patchouli and incense for mysterious seduction.”

The Body Shop Elixirs of Nature EDP Review

As I mentioned earlier, all the Elixirs of Nature fragrances are unisex. Since Bowhanti is a spicy woody fragrance, it leans more masculine and guys would love this. It is woody, it is spicy and it is musky – and very sexy too. I bought this fragrance for my husband, and while he loves it, I am surprised how much I like to wear it too! It smells great on me as well and different from what it smells on my husband. I also love to layer this with either of the other two fragrances to create a very unique scent.

To Sum It Up

The Body Shop Elixirs of Nature Fragrances are really lovely fragrances that are very unique. I really appreciate the fact that they have been created in a non-destructive way. I also love how they can be layered to create a really unique scent. These fragrances have decent sillage but the longevity could have been better. If I spray them only on my pulse points, they last around 3-4 hours. But when I spray on my clothes and pulse points, it lasts much longer. Perhaps it has something to do with individual body chemistry since Bowhanti lasts all day on my husband. I really like these fragrances and if you haven’t tried them, go check them out.

Have you tried out this range yet? Let me know if you have.
