Benetton United Dreams EDT Review

One of my favourite fashion brands, United Colors of Benetton also has  a delightful range of fragrances, called United Dreams,  each of which has  an inspirational message. I have already reviewed Stay Positive – which is the Orange variant – on the blog and today, I am reviewing Love Yourself which is a fresh and sweet fruity-floral fragrance.

While these fragrances have been around since a couple of years and I have loved the Orange one, I never felt tempted to buy this one since rose-based fragrances never appealed to me. On my last visit to the Benetton store last month, however, I just really liked the fragrance of Love Yourself (though I have smelled it earlier too) and I ended up buying both, the orange and this pink one.

The bottles for the United Dreams fragrances are minimalistically elegant and have a hexagonal cap with the Benetton logo embossed on it and a coloured ribbon at the base. For Love Yourself, the colour of the ribbon is a pretty pink.

United Dreams Love Yourself smells fresh and slightly sweet fruity- floral with rose and amber notes being most distinctive. It is very unique and different from the usual rose fragrances and is nowhere close to the cloying, sickeningly sweet synthetic rose aroma that several products have.

Love Yourself has been described as “a sensual, and feminine fragrance with top notes of pear, raspberry, apricot and bergamot. The heart is composed of jasmine, freesia and rose laid on the base of amber, musk and sandalwood.”

To my nose, the rose and the amber are the most distinctive of all the notes and it’s only after the fragrance has settled down a bit that I can smell a bit of complexity from the blend of fruity and floral fragrances. While amber is part of the base notes, I can smell it right from the start and the combination of rose and amber is what appeals to me the most.

While the fragrance is described as “sensual“, I personally, would describe it as an “innocent and feminine fragrance“. Like I have said earlier, fragrance is a very subjective thing and as someone whose usual choice in fragrances leans towards sparkling, sexy ones, (like the Armani Code) I find there’s an air of innocence about this one.

As refreshing and delightful as this fragrance is, what disappoints is it’s longevity. It lasts on me for all of two hours. Max! Regardless of whether I spray it on my skin or on my clothes, I have to reapply after a couple of hours. Though hubby and kids tell me they can smell  the fragrance lightly when they hug me even 5-6 hours after application. So perhaps it is a case of olfactory saturation where the person wearing the fragrance gets so used to it that they can’t smell it any more.

If you are fond of sweet fruity-floral fragrances or any fragrance with a touch of rose, do check this one out. It is a lovely, fresh fragrance that is perfect for summers and is super affordable too! At this price, I don’t mind having to reapply it and since the last month, Love Yourself has become my signature daytime fragrance.

Have you tried any of the Benetton United Dreams fragrances? Let me know what sort of fragrances you like.
